Space Walk
But the training is important. Since she has every intention of escaping this miserable ship at the first opportunity it's important to learn...how to do that.
Movement is cumbersome. But then again, she's used to working wearing practically nothing at all. So she feels like a complete, hulking mess. Each step is painfully clumsy to her mind, but she carefully moves her way across the hull.
She's just starting to feel like she's got a good rhythm when she's stopped in her tracks, at the sight of the red ribbons of energy.
What the kriff?]
no subject
She notices Maya and smiles - clearly she hasn't yet realized anyone saw the small display of power.]
There has to be an easier way to walk in this.
no subject
[That isn't something someone says after a display like that. Not unless they're trying to hide something.
And, really, everyone has something to hide. Maya's just a little too curious for her own good.
Which is probably why she sends a tendril of thought out, trying to probe the other woman's mind gently. Secrets are usually surface-level right after something like that.]
no subject
Surprise filters through, but no anger. Not yet. Wanda watches silently, waiting to see what Maya will do.]
no subject
No one.]
How did you do that?
no subject
[Unfortunately, neither language Wanda knows can adequately describe how this sort of thing works. And Wanda herself is starting to questions whether it's just an accident of science or actual magic.]
How did you do that?
no subject
It's incredible. A little intimidating, but also incredible.]
I don't know. It's just something I do.
no subject
But she was just playing with the more public aspect, so she lets one wisp of power briefly flash across her right hand.]
It is good to know that it still works in this. I wouldn't want to guess if someone needed help.
[Yeah, that's totally all they were talking about...]
no subject
Good to know she's not the only paranoid person around.]
That makes sense.
[Both the suggestion that someone may be listening and checking for powers.
Which gives Maya a bit of an idea. She's pretty sure they haven't been able to bug her for telepathy yet, anyway. Tentatively, she tests the waters, sending a thought out to the other woman.]
Can you hear this?
no subject
She also doesn't want the captains to try to make her use the darker aspects of her powers, and the only way to ensure that is to keep them from finding out.]
Yes.
[Surprise again. Wanda and River communicate in much more abstract terms: images, feelings, fleeting impressions. It's dizzying, like staring into a thousand reflections of reflections. This is cleaner, simpler.
It's still difficult to keep surface emotions from coloring her 'words' - surprise and curiosity at the new discovery, excitement mingled with a little fear from the spacewalk itself.]
Is this another 'just something you do?'
no subject
But this? This is just...lightyears beyond anything. Being able to communicate through telepathy? And having someone else communicate back? That's a wildly new experience, which leaves her own thoughts colored by emotion. Specifically excitement.]
I guess so? No one's ever answered before. Not like this.
no subject
You're the first person I've met who could do this.
I'm Wanda.
no subject
[This may officially be the strangest situation that Maya's ever found herself in. Which is really saying something.]
This is incredible...
[She actually smiles. Which isn't something she does all that often.]
no subject
[Then again, a lot of things on the Moira have defied both expectation and logic, so maybe she shouldn't be so surprised.]
no subject
[But hey. She'll take it. There are definitely less pleasant surprises in the galaxy.]
What's the red energy ribbon? How do you do that?
no subject
[Loki called it magic, and maybe it is, but it feels so different and limited compared to every other type of 'magic' she's seen.]
no subject
It's beautiful
