Library
The lights come back on as he pushes the door to the library open and spots Elizabeth on the floor. ]
Miss DeWitt! [ He hurries over, gun set on the floor beside him as he kneels to check her vital signs. ] Elizabeth, can you hear me?
no subject
Mr. Hart...?
[Her voice is a grating rasp and the three syllables are labored, but Elizabeth is quickly putting together what's happened. Something had grabbed her, and her back feels tingly.]
Be careful... it... might still...
[The lights start flickering again, and Elizabeth looks around as best she can, scared.] Get out of here...!

[ He offers her a hand, still carefully watching her for telltale signs of broken bone or trauma. It's entirely possible she's in shock, hasn't felt the true direness of her wounds yet. ]
Can you stand? I can carry you if need be.
no subject
[She grabs his hand and forces herself up as quickly as she can with the experience of someone used to moving to stay alive even when injured. Something feels like it's arcing along her back, pulling at her skin.]
If you insist, but we have to go-- now! [She half-stumbles, half-pushes at Harry to leave the library.]
no subject
Gun in hand, he looks out the door carefully to make sure the coast is clear before he steps out first and gestures for Elizabeth to step out. ]
It looks clear, we ought to be fine if we keep moving and reach the Medical Bay.
[ He touches her shoulder lightly. ]
I'll go first. Should anything happen to me, run as fast as you can to someplace with a door you can secure. Do not come back for me, is that clear?
no subject
[She stares at his hand, wondering where it came from, and finally her brain picks up on what's been said. Elizabeth holds out her hand for the gun.] No, I know how to fire that, I should go first. I can't run far anyway, no point in both of us going down if it finds us again.
[It seems sound, if she could straighten up and stand unaided. It feels like she's had every scrap of energy pulled out of her in one ferocious yank-- right out of her back.]
no subject
[ He gives her a stern look. In all honesty he was already considering if he might have to carry her to the med bay if she weakened any further. ]
I do not doubt your ability to defend yourself with a gun but, I cannot in good conscience let you put yourself in further danger when you're in a weakened state.

Probably because she is.Elizabeth knows almost immediately from his tone that Harry isn't going to budge on this, but it also puts a certain confidence in her. Part of her is saying he's a tailor and he's probably only fired a gun at some kind of shooting range for recreation.][A bigger part is saying he knows what he's doing, and that he's a tailor on weekends so to speak.]
[Elizabeth folds and nods without much hesitation.] Alright, if you insist, you insist. I'll just-- [She starts walking along the wall, keeping her shoulder to it for support.] I'll just be here. Getting ready to run like hell if I have to...
no subject
I do appreciate this, Miss DeWitt.
[ Harry takes the time to make sure a bullet is chambered before stepping ahead to take point, gun pointed down and away where no one except a threat might be injured. ]
It would have been most uncouth to have to carry you over my shoulder, after all.
no subject
[She's pretty slow moving, and when she opens her eyes the scenery has a tendency to wobble, but this feels... familiar. In a good way. She only wishes she could be more helpful, instead of dragging herself along the wall.]
This probably isn't the time for this conversation, but you're handy with that, right? [She means the gun, obviously.] I'm guessing you wouldn't be threatening to hoist me up if it meant you might shoot yourself in the leg.
no subject
[ He keeps a careful eye on her in case she stumbles or falls while so stubbornly moving under her own power. She might not appreciate being carried but if it meant getting her to safety quickly if he strength failed he was willing to risk her ire. ]
In my younger days I served some time in the military. I kept up the habit of maintaining and practicing with a handgun even after I left. Marksmanship does wonders keeping your hand-eye coordination sharp.
no subject
[No, it makes no sense, but Elizabeth is practically seeing double so she can't really think too hard about what it even means that a tailor was in the military and still shoots guns for fun.]
I couldn't even begin to explain how I know how to fire a gun, I can't even remember where my room is anymore I'm so tired. What did it do to me?
no subject
[ Heaven help him. Attacked by some fucking monster and she still has the energy to sass him. Young people truly were terrifying in their own way. ]
I'm not sure. I assume it somehow took your energy from you and left you in a weakened state. What I'm curious about is why it left you alive while killing that other young woman.
no subject
I'm just-- saying that... [She sighs and stops, leaning against the wall. Dizzy.] ... I don't know what the hell I'm saying, nevermind.
[She wants to stay focused and keep walking, and if she'd been alone that might have been easier. But Harry's with her. She has a companion again, a partner almost, that she could trust when she couldn't manage on her own.]
Maybe you showed up before it went for round two. Not that I could tell you how much time has passed between then and now.
