[ the entirety of the newness is helpful in some respects - he's spent weeks now in hiding, avoiding the people he used to be trying to help, wondering what the next step in all of this is supposed to be. too long in his own head, too long with a goal but no purpose. he's never had that problem before, a lack of direction. he's not confused, he still has his drive and his endgame, he just has no vehicle to make it there. sitting stagnant has let older issues rise to the surface in the lack of any current.

so the scarcity of the familiarity and the entirety of the newness, yeah. a shock to the system, maybe not the same old current but an alternate one for now. this isn't just another form of hiding. it's not.

his method of movement isn't formal, but it is trained through experience. once the hold is out of the question he flows through the counter, keeping most of his balance only sort of by luck. it helps that these are older skills he's been more recently exercising anyway.
