It's something he's come to terms with by now, that keeping calm is the only solution, the only way to control himself. His options were always limited, if any at all: even living in complete isolation wouldn't have worked in the grander scheme of things, because the Hulk could run massive distances in a very short time, and while the monster tends to prefer being alone too, Bruce couldn't risk it. Not to mention there were always people looking for him, trying to hunt him down.
And putting an end to it all, well - he tried that. Didn't work all that well either. At least learning to control it meant he could help people, try to do some good. It would never be enough to make up for the lives he destroyed, but it's better than doing nothing at all.
