Who: Girl and Kid
When: The sixth
Where: Kobra's room?
What: The Girl returns and gets her dad to catch her up on things
Warnings: Swearing, little kids crying, discussion of canon death
Waking up from being frozen might just rank up there in the top ten list of the worst things the Girl has dealt with. The medbay staff wants to poke and prod at her, were more interested in things like vitals and tests and shining lights her eyes than explaining why she was there in the first place. It reminded her of all the things Deacon had warned her about doctors, about missing time and missing organs. She threw on her clothes as quick as she could, and ducked under flailing arms to escape.
The ship looks different, effects of the battle obvious and making the place strangely more homey. She would appreciate it if she didn't feel some much like a weight was sitting on her chest, terrified from her time in the tubes. She raced down to Kobra's room, sending off a misspelled and frantic message ahead of her. Her knock was more her throwing herself against the door, hopefully vainly that his roommates weren't around and knowing neither would really care if they were. The Girl steps back just enough for him to open the door, arms drawn tightly across her chest.

"'Bout time you showed up." In truth, he'd been worried, even with his own injuries, but he's not going to tell her that. Instead he kneels down gingerly, doing his best not to flinch, and goes to pull her into a hug with his good arm. "Missed all the excitement."
no subject
"Didn't mean to," she says against his shoulder. "Couldn't have been all that excitin' without me."
The Girl steps back, touches the edge of a bruise and gives him a smile. "Miss me?"

If he's honest, he'd been pretty worried. He doesn't trust the doctors or scientists here at all and they haven't given him much of a reason to. There's no one who cares about her the way he does and he can't trust them with her life the way he trusts the others back home.
"Woulda been fine if anyone listened to me, but they didn't."

It's easier to be teasing rather than to think about being stuck in those tubes. She hadn't trusted the staff on board since arrival, and with Deacon's warnings waking up in the Medbay had been reason to panic. She's trying not to think about how many things could have happened while she was unconscious, about how much the sterile nature of the place reminded her of her short stint at BLI.
"The people here don't understand nothing about staying in one piece. We should have all took off when we had the chance."

Ghoul and Jet and Party have to be alive if he is. He refuses to think otherwise, even when he'd seen Party go down with his own eyes.
"We gotta get back to 'em or they'll be worried sick."

She gets the same sinking feeling in her chest as when they returned back through the fake portals. The rock sitting in her stomach in the face of his blinding optimism that the others were out there alive. That going home would be a reunion and not a ticket back to a place where he was in a body bag and she was alone.
She's spent a life time on the same page as all of her boys, following their lead, feeling the same things. It stings to feel like their minds are miles apart on this. It's worse to feel like she can't say anything without sounding like she's lost her faith. like she's doubting him.
She'd rather his truth be real, wants it to be more than anything. She just can't shake the sound of falling bodies out of her head.
"We'll see 'em again," she says quietly. "You know we will. We're pretty damn good and findin' each other, I think."

If he's honest, there's a part of him that knows he's probably wrong, but he can't just accept that without proof. Until he sees Party's body again, he won't be convinced that his brother is really gone. There are so few memories in his life as it is where Party wasn't featured prominently. Even in most of the one's he's not in, he'd been nearby enough. They've been in each other's pockets for so long that he can't even think of a time when he'd felt alone. Then Ghoul and Jet had come along and they'd become a family somewhere along the way. He needs all of them just the same way he needs her to feel like he's really got everything he needs.
"Maybe the Ingress'll pull one of them next when it's botherin' to work."
no subject
They have to. It's the last hope she has to cling to and she'd hold on with all she's got. They'll show up here someday and then they can figure out together what to do next. Party will know, and maybe it isn't fair to push it all on him, but she thinks if he were only here he could fix things. Figure out how to keep them all together, death be damned.
"I know waitin' is the worst, but it's what we gotta do. Unless you figured out how to work that big ol' machine while I was sleepin'."
no subject
Waiting's never been a strong skill of his, either. He's usually one of the first among them to go stir crazy waiting for anything. Patience just isn't his virtue.
"Probably gonna hit 'em all when they do get here just for takin' so long." That is when he's done hugging them until they can't breath, the assholes.

She walks past him to flop down on a bed, not bothering to check which. She smiles up at him, shaking her head. It'll be a miracle if she doesn't cry when they finally arrive, if she even lets go of them long enough to make it past the door of the Ingress room. "Gotta get in line. I'm takin' first swing."
"What else did I miss, anyway? Or was it all just a big firefight?"

Maybe he'll get lucky and she won't ask why he's got the bandage. His arm is pretty terrifying right now. It takes a lot to make him woozy, but his first glimpse of it had had him nearly swooning. The visual is almost worse than the pain.
"Probably wanna be careful around some of it. No idea what's gonna happen with it if something else goes wrong."
no subject
No dice Kobra. The Girl's giving every injury she sees on him another look, including a lingering one to the bandages. She points, eyebrows raised.
"I ain't about to go steppin' on glass, KK. I've seen how shit this place looks, I'm gonna be careful. But if ya think it's worse than just some cuts, you're gonna have to tell me about it."
no subject
With a sigh, he starts to unwrap his arm. Once the bandage starts to come off, she'll be able to see several large gashes in his arm, but instead of blood, they're filled with solid glass. "Not as bad at it looks."
no subject
"Is it hurtin'?" This isn't anything she'd have any idea how to treat, even if it had been regular blood pouring from the wound. "Has it spread?"
no subject
"I'll be alright."
no subject
"You better be," she says like she could actually do something he he wasn't. "If a bunch of people ended up like this, someone must be workin' on how to fix it. Somebody will get ya right soon, I bet."
