Instinctively, Miller pulled his hands back at the raise in Liquid's voice. "Probably better to go with someone. You don't want to get stuck here with them, do you?"

But he wondered. Did Liquid? He was misinterpreting the situation, but Liquid hadn't minded his bond with Mantis. Maybe this was the same way? Whichever it was, he wasn't acting normally. Walking out on an enemy, abandoning them to this place... he normally wouldn't be against it. Easy way to get a tactical advantage.

But again, that face, that odd behavior, the desire to be a respectable soldier and not leave men behind. That was winning out.
