At first, Sans laughs. It's instinctual -- Toriel tells a funny joke, Sans laughs, and around they go until they get sick of laughing. That last part usually never happens, which is just fine by Sans.

Besides, that's a pretty great set up. Skeletons, carbon dating, that works out to one hilarious zinger.
