Screams Geometrically?
Who: Kaworu Nagisa, Frisk, and Toriel
When: March 13th, early morning
Where: Outside Nomo 5
What: Kaworu needs to be taught some boundaries, but this is probably not the day to do it :I
Warnings: Links to Eva videos for sound reference, geometric screaming
Frisk has, entirely by accident, elevated themselves to a person of interest in Kaworu's eyes. But not as a human being, no. As something else. Something alien. Something new. Something even, potentially, dangerous.
Something special.
Which both did and did not explain why he had made a habit of waiting outside the child's room first thing in the morning and greeting them with a warm smile before inviting himself along on the walk to breakfast with them.
It should be noted that Frisk never asked Kaworu to do this.
Nor did Kaworu ask Frisk if they wanted him to do it.
But yet again, on the morning of the thirteenth--long before anyone else was awake--Kaworu placed himself outside Nomo 5's outside door. Waiting. Frisk would emerge soon.
In three... two...

Frisk is still a little startled seeing Kaworu waiting for them outside their room each morning. The first time had been a little bit of a heart attack, and next few confusing and somewhat alarming. And now a week in it's almost settled into a routine, though it still bothers Frisk on a level they don't quite understand. They know this isn't a very good thing, but they can't quite put their finger on why.
(It's called stalking. The thing that is bothering them is called stalking.)
Smiling and offering a quick wave before letting the door shut behind them, Frisk starts heading down the hall with a yawn.
"G'morning."

It's certainly the only one he knows how to fill. But he does it very well.
When they've made it a few feet down the hall, he offers a brief observation--something mundane but reassuring. What specifically that observation is about today doesn't much matter, though.
Because what Frisk hears, just a few inches to their right, is this.
And yes, it's loud enough to echo.
Good morning, Nomo deck.
Welcome to the Angel Edition of today's Translation Hell.

Frisk jumps a literal foot in the air with a silent yelp, stumbling on the landing and whipping around to stare at Kaworu like he just grew a second head. What...what in the world was that?!
"Wh-why are you yelling?!"
Hope you're good at lip-reading Kaworu, because there is no sound coming out of this child's throat.
no subject
And... then silently mouthing something to him?
What?
Something he can not understand, because lip-reading is a pretty useless ability when the person you're speaking to does not actually speak the only human language you know. Forgive him for being a little disconcerted. Some things are out of even his considerably bizarre league.
"What's wrong?"
At least there's no laser.
no subject
"No, no, stop! You're gonna wake people up, you gotta be quiet!"
no subject
When she comes upon her child with what she assumes is a friend she calls out to the pair. "Frisk? Is everything alright?" Likely to Kaworu it will sound like a series of beeps and blips. "Did something happen?" Her child being close to whatever the source is only makes the boss monster's concern grow.
no subject
Kaworu stops cold when Frisk jumps up and begins waving their small arms at him frantically, but anything they might have to say is lost when it comes out of their mouth entirely silent. He even looks disconcerted now, and--
A door opens and he glances back at it in some dismay.
He doesn't have a response for either part of this yet, but Toriel certainly isn't helping.
He's seen an animate skeleton and spoken to more than one kind of mechanical being. Shaggy white... dog? Creatures? Are not the most startling sight he's weathered here. So he doesn't react much to the sight of her.
It's the noises she's making, really...
What is...?
"...something is wrong."
Call it a hunch.
But hey, at least this time it's not a piercing geometric shriek.
no subject
"Mom!" They rush over to the boss monster to tug her closer, looking frantic and nervous. "He just started screaming and I don't know why! He never sounded like this before!"
no subject
"Are you hurt? Do you need help?" Really all it comes out to is a series of odd noises opposed to her original intent. Toriel is guessing something is wrong, but she isn't quite sure what it is.

And it shows. In a rare moment of absolute emotional honesty (oh, but when isn't Kaworu honest?), Kaworu's feelings show on his face: in his furrowed brow, in his slightly narrowed eyes, in the downturn of his almost-always-smiling mouth.
This time, he doesn't say anything. He just looks at her.

It's doesn't even occur to Frisk that it might seem like they're running away from Kaworu at this moment--they're just concerned and worried about their friend right now. Frowning and looking between Toriel and Kaworu, they step back over to him and reach to take his hand, squeezing it gently.
"Kaworu? What's wrong?"
no subject
"If you need to talk, we're right here, dear." She offers gently back.
I laughed the whole time I was writing this, help me God
What he has figured out is that Frisk is, inexplicably, upset. So upset, in fact, that they will literally run from him to seek comfort from this... this dog. (He knows that's not exactly right, but he has no idea what else to call it. He's only seen maybe three different animals in his entire life, and the other two are cats and birds. Of them, 'dog' is closer.)
With that piece of information, his expression relaxes slightly, before softening into a more familiar, reassuring one--a smile.
Stepping forward, he makes brief eye contact with Toriel--acknowledgement, assurance--before placing a gentle hand on Frisk's shoulder.
Whatever he says then is probably meant to be reassuring.
no subject
They're totally deaf now.
Frisk grits their teeth and just barely manages to keep from jolting away from Kaworu, but they are very quick to reach forward and put both hands over his mouth.
"No, shhh!" Frisk shakes their head and puts a finger to their mouth. They don't know HOW he couldn't realize how loud he is right now, but... "Quiet! Your voice is funny right now!"
Taking their hands back and giving him his personal space back, they tap away at the MID to bring up a text screen and hold it up. "Let's use this for now, okay?"
no subject
"Lets hope we can communicate that way." Toriel definitely feels like something is wrong now, she isn't sure what, but Kaworu's body language doesn't communicate distress.
Picturing Toriel as a sort of white puff muffin is killin' me here
If Frisk's reaction to his speech wasn't enough, the weird dog thing's definitely clinches the deal.
Something is definitely wrong, and he's the only one who doesn't seem to get it.
What's going on?
It takes only a second to type, and his brow furrows with worry as he turns the MID to show Frisk--and by extension, Toriel--a short message.
Unfortunately, instead of any known human language, the text looks a lot more like this.
no subject
That's...
That's a problem.
Casting another worried glance to Toriel, they type out a response of their own.
can you read this?
They offer the MID to Kaworu again with an incredibly worried look. "I can't read yours..."
no subject
"My child, do you think whatever enables all of us to understand each other is having problems?" Toriel may not understand every nuisance of technology, much less how the ship functions- but she can wager something has been smoothing over every language snafu that could occur with a crew from so many different places.
hhhHHHH sorry about that
He knows what a question mark, is at least. But that's as far as he can take what he's looking at.
Toriel's miles ahead of him, in fact. It might not take a genius to figure things out, but Kaworu is not only not a genius, he's really not designed to cogitate or interpret. So he just stands there while Toriel bips and beeps, staring pensively at Frisk's MID with one hand over his mouth. It takes him a little over two minutes to really deconstruct what's happening.
Finally--
"...I see."
That's a low, ululating whale noise to Frisk and Toriel.

Suddenly, Frisk gets an idea and leaves Kaworu to his pondering to tug on Toriel's sleeve urgently. "Mom, can you go get some paper? If we do a drawing game, we can still kinda talk!" An errand which should rather conveniently fill those two minutes while the gay wonder figures things out.
no subject
The idea is a solid one, making the boss monster's expression brighten as she speaks. "Good idea. Paper could be a way around some of this."
Toriel mimes waiting for Kaworu, not sure if he'll understand the gesture but not wanting to leave the teenager out of things. "Wait here, I'll grab some paper and a pencil."
