A Passive Approach: 3/09

[Eggsy decides to set up shop in the mess hall. It's a central location, one that will get him the attention that he needs, because he's going to stage a protest against killing the whales. It's not what he'd actually like to do, but he knows better than to start shit that could result in another planet being destroyed.

So he borrows some paint and starts making some signs.]

Hey, you wanna help?

[He stops people as they come in, explaining what's going on.]

An Active Approach: 3/11; closed

[The protest he'd set up with the help of the rest of the crew went alright. It didn't stop the whalers, which pissed him off, but it did at least rally everyone to work together. That was something.

But he was antsy, pent up, and pissed off.

There was no reason to kill the whales just to harvest a mineral from inside them. That was shit and he was telling one of the whalers just as much when he decided to take a swing. And another. Next thing he knew, Eggsy was in a full-on brawl with a group of them. Swinging, dodging, doing just fine, and then there's Loki, out of nowhere, distracting him.]

Watch out!

[A fist catches his jaw and he stumbles.]

A Questionnaire: 3/12

[Early in the morning, Eggsy sends out a MID message to the entire crew, captains included.]

I've been tryin to find somethin to do here that I'd be good at and I'm plannin on asking for a job switch soon. There seems to be a lot of animals on the ship. They might need care or someone to look after them, so I'm gonna make a list, but I need your help.

If you could help me with that, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

[Attached to the message is a simple list that anyone can update. Either message Eggsy back and let him know, or add what you do know to it.]

[OOC: For the protest prompt, feel free to time skip ahead on that or have your character help make signs. He'll be taking them down to the planet, with whoever wants to go, and starting a protest outside where most of the whalers hang out.]

[Loki's actually about six feet to the left of where everyone sees him, thanks to a hastily muttered word as soon as he saw the brawl, on one of his regular explorations of the temporary. He'd actually been rather impressed by how well Eggsy was holding off the hordes, stopping to watch for a moment- at least until Eggsy had got distracted.

With a sigh, he wades in to the fight, a very surprised whaler being pulled off Eggsy with casual strength before Loki merges back with his illusion in front of Eggsy.]

It's not me who needs to be careful, master Unwin. I'm not as squishy as mortals, and a little punch isn't likely to fell me.

[He rolls his eyes, but moves to cover Eggsy's side, in the brawl now whether he likes it or not.]

Well, I suppose I was getting rather bored.

It's a nice idea, pal, but do you really think it'll work? A few days isn't much time to change hearts and minds. [Deacon's a bit of a pessimist when it comes to human (and alien) nature.]

[Snake didn't expect to see painted signs in the Mess Hall when he entered but that was what he got. A young man seemed to be busying himself setting something up.]

[Alright, Eggsy definitely knew that Loki was a God, he did. It was just that he wasn't used to that, so he tended to forget the guy could take care of himself in a situation like this. He didn't want anyone to get hurt, not cause he was mouthing off when he shouldn't have been and the ache in his jaw and his ribs will remind him of that for a couple days, so he was a little more careless now.]

Maybe not. [He dodges a fist, twisting around so that he can knock one of the whalers away.] But couldn't risk it.

[Eggsy wants to be impressed at how easy this is for Loki, but later when his lip isn't bleeding and there's not a man trying to beat the shit out of him.]

Oh, yeah, bruv. If you ain't busy, I'd appreciate it.

[People came here to eat, had their own work to do, so Eggsy wouldn't be upset if they didn't have any free time for this.]

Tryin' to make some signs. Ain't usually one for peacefully protestin', but figured, considerin' the mess on Caducus, that I'd try this instead.

[He was going to give this a shot before doing anything stupid.]

[Eggsy shrugs, picking up a brush with red paint on the end.]

Thought I'd give this a shot, and if it doesn't work, I dunno. Try somethin' else.

Well, I guess it's better than bombing the harvesting facility. Non-violent is a nice option, when it works.

[He still doesn't think it will, but he'll contribute a sign to the cause.

From the way them notices was posted, seems like bombing anythin' would just blow the planet up.

[Eggsy steps back, hands on his hips as he watches the man makes his sign. It's an effective piece of art and Eggsy kind of likes it.]

Funny you drew an egg, cause I'm Eggsy.

[He sticks his hand out.]

[Busy? He hadn't anything to do that was the problem. No missions. Nothing. Just the odd cleaning duty which was mandatory aboard the Moira. He wanted to do some reconnaissance but just hadn't got around to it yet. Being new he still didn't know his way around that good yet.]

What are you protesting about?

[Snake looked at the kid's board and frowned. Whales? Whaling? Was he an animal rights activist? In space?]

Didn't think you got many whales in space.

Killin' them big floatin' whale things.

[They might not be whales, but they looked like it, so that was close enough.]

They ain't killin' them to survive or anythin' like that. They're killin' them to harvest some kind of mind alterin' shit and that ain't right.

[He lifts a brush, extending it towards the man with a shrug.]

This is my first time in space, so I couldn't really say, yeah?

[Deacon looks Eggsy over, seeing if he can spot a weapon and only then does he shake his hand. It's habit. He approaches handshakes with the mindset of actually taking note whether a person has a weapon in their hands or not. Very old fashioned.]

So, is Eggsy a nickname or were your parents just breakfast enthusiasts?

[Surprisingly, Eggsy doesn't get asked that as much here as he used to back home.]

[He drops his hand, turning back to his signs.]

My dad gave it me when I was a boy.

Sounds like there's a story behind that.

["Eggsy" doesn't sound like the type of nickname you give a boy just because you like the way it rolls off the tongue.

He flicks some yellow paint on the sign he's working on to indicate yolk spattering under the whale's weight.]

Nothin' amazing or anythin'.

[Memorable to him simply because it had been something of his father that he remembered.]

Dad was in the military, so he weren't around much. But when he was home he'd always wake me up an' make breakfast.

[Eggsy's hand stills, paintbrush resting against the sign.]

He'd always make eggs. Not cause they was my favorite, but cause I heard him tell me mum that it was the only thing he knew how to cook. I thought it was helpin', askin' for what he knew how to do. Kinda became our thing. Said I was turnin' into an egg, his lil' egg.

[The longer version had come in to play eventually, but Eggsy can't remember the exact day.]

So I wasn't far off with the breakfast enthusiast. He sounds like an awesome Dad.

[Loki draws his belt-knife, raising an eyebrow at one whaler who gets a little too close. The whaler decides to retreat, having not brought a knife to a fist fight.

He concentrates mostly on just making sure no-one gets too close to Eggsy's blind spots, content to let someone else do most of the punching. Even people he's moderately fond of can't expect to get away from the fact Loki is much fonder of having other people do the fighting. Besides, it gives him more chance to watch Eggsy.]

I've risked worse. I've been punched by Hulks before, and survived it, if that gives you a frame of reference. That does hurt.

He was, yeah. [Eggsy shrugs, going back to his sign.] How's it comin'?

[a second visit to the museum had only made the culling operation more disturbing, and despite a healthy interest in interplanetary cultures and economies, Bel's preferred to stay on shipboard for the last few days.

it helps to know others are disturbed as well -- a glimpse of one of Eggsy's signs has Bel sauntering over to the table for a look.]

I did this a few times back home. Getting heard is a good first step. [grins and pulls up a chair] Are we going to march on them?

I dunno. Think I should give the whale glowing red eyes and fangs? You know, to make an impression?

[Eggsy curses when his hand connects with one of the whaler's jaws, the angle causing a knuckle to split.]

Shit.

[He shakes his hand, adapting quickly to how Loki fights. Even though it's mostly making sure nobody gets too close, it's enough and it's appreciated.]

Does fuckin' hurt, Loki. Just some of us ain't strong enough to survive that.

[Considering that was how he died, Eggsy knows from experience, but it's nothing he needs to focus on now. There's two whalers left, and Eggsy knocks one back, hard enough he gets too close to the edge and the other man has to grab him. They scramble off, gathering up the others as they go.]

Fuckin' tossers! [Chest heaving, blood trickling from his lip, he turns towards Loki with a grin.] Hey, how're you?

Ah, maybe not that. Make 'em look cute and friendly, like you'd wanna save them not kill them.

[He says this with the beginnings of a smile.]

[Eggsy glance up, brows raised and a slow smile blooming. He hasn't had a single person with any experience come up to him, so this definitely helps. He recognizes them from around the ship, Bel Thorne according to the MID.]

I wanna march on them. I don't know if it'll be doin' any good, but them things are out there, mindin' their own and someone's killin' them. Ain't right.

[He drops his paintbrush, sticking out his hand.]

Feelin' like you might wanna join, yeah?

Good point. Big eyes and adorable grins it is then. No wait, big eyes and sad, pitiful faces. That's better.

So, do you stage protests a lot? This is my first time. I'm a protesting virgin.

[Eggsy shakes his head.]

Nah, I don't. This is my first time, so we both are protesting virgins.

[He grins then, his mouth quirking.]

It's a national pastime back home. [and easily degenerates into memes and personal injury, but it's all fresh and new here, and fire and sincerity go a long way.

has seen Eggsy around the ship as well -- casting some interesting glances at Greg, yet! now there's a situation to keep an eye on. a compact, punchy lad, his smile definitely worth a second look and a smile in return as Bel grips his hand.]

Try to keep me away. Nobody'd spend that much attention sanitizing their public image if there wasn't something wrong somewhere. You'd think they'd develop a synthetic instead, and save on labor and bloodshed.
