He laughs, scratching at his moss a little as he thinks about that. It goes to show, there's a lot that Sans still doesn't know about him. In fact, he probably knows a lot more about his life in Ryslig than he does about anything that came before it.
"It's always been my responsibility," he says after a moment, smiling apologetically. "Ever since I was born, I've been getting ready to grow up and protect the Earth with the other Crystal Gems...it's what my mom wanted me to do. And she's part of me, so..."
The truth of the matter is that he was never really given a choice, but he also never asked for one. It's always just been something he accepted, something he wanted...just because he knew it was what his family needed from him. That's always been enough.
