ANA AMARI.
Venom's done with overanalysis for the moment. If he starts worrying about all the ways in which this reminds him of the same old, he knows he'll wear himself down to strips. That's not exactly beneficial for anyone, not to mention that he hates the thought of wallowing in self-pity; if he has time enough to lick his wounds, he should be doing what he can to make sure that he's accounting for all the people that he's come to ascribe his camaraderie to.
Which brings him to Ana. Someone he feels a strange sense of ease with, someone with the same brand of preternatural calm as him, albeit with more humor. A not-so-silent sniper who reminds him, just barely, of someone he misses from his homeworld.
He meanders the halls of Avagi until he thinks he sees a glimpse of her, loose ends of a braid peering from a covered head. ]
—Ana.
[ This is a good place to meet— they're literally yards away from the space bar. ]

( there's a smile with her greeting, a relief in seeing him. she'd been ticking names off her mental list of people to catch up with. after jack she'd ben less worried that everyone else had made it through, and each familiar face rings that true.
she's stepping closer, a hand reaching to rest on his arm in greeting for a few seconds )
What do you think?
( it's not so home sweet home )

Trying to find a good balance between cynical and optimistic.
[ Optimistic as in "I've seen worse", and cynical as in "things can only get worse". He's sure that Ana knows the sentiment, so his statement reads more like a dry joke than anything else.
A contemplative hum, and he fixes his gaze on Ana. Evaluative. ]
Caught up with your people yet?
OCELOT.
"—deadly, man, she could really rip your world apart. Mind over matter, oh, the beauty is there but a beast is in the heart—"
Music bleeds through the headphones that he rips out of his ears, indistinct chatters of synths and basslines underscoring the rhythmic barking that DD provides by Venom's feet. ]
—Ocelot.
[ Does he sound relieved? Maybe. None of them have ever been good at grandiose reunions, and events of the past few months have made the process pedestrian, almost trite—
—but that doesn't stop Venom from putting a hand on Ocelot's shoulder, confirming and reaffirming with that singular point of contact. ]
History repeats itself, huh.
[ How many times will things like this happen, for fuck's sake...........
Note that he doesn't ask how Ishmael is, because if there's one thing that Venom absolutely and unequivocally knows, it's that Ocelot wouldn't be standing here if Ishmael wasn't also somewhere on the premises. ]

I've found some. Still making the rounds of this place.
( okay she might have gotten a little distracted after finding jack but there were priorities there )
Did yours make it through?

[ There's some sincerity to his statement, a heavy shroud of relief tucked under his pokerface. Venom rarely breaks from 'neutral', but his little deviations speak for themselves; the downturn of his brows, the ease of tension from his squared jaw.
He cares deeply— that extends to Ana, as well. ]
Not holding you up, am I.
[ If she needs to go find her people, he won't stop her; still, he's glad to see a familiar face. ]

( which is apparently her way of saying that she's good sticking and chatting for a while )
It would make sense to catch up whilst we're here. There's been a lot of time that we've missed.
( 300 years. she jokes )
HELLO DARKNESS MY OLD FRIEND
he lets the hand sit on his shoulder, even going so far as to bring his own up to touch it in acknowledgement. ]
Boss.
[ and of course he doesn't ask how John is. he knows far better than that, doesn't he. still, he gives him enough of a glance to let his friend know that yes, their mutual reasons for being (he refuses to use the French term, even in his own internal monologue) is fine.
at Venom's next comment, he can't help but chuckle, though the smile doesn't quite reach his eyes. ]
You know how it goes.
[ hasn't that just been their luck? ]
This time, I'm probably just as in the dark as you are.
[ something that he isn't exactly overly fond of. he likes being one or two steps ahead, but here they are, over three hundred years into the future, and all he has are bits and pieces of old maps cobbled together. ]

Gonna have to fill me in on a whole lifetime.
[ He wouldn't mind— he's always been good at listening.
But that being said, he gestures towards the end of the hall that leads to the half-abandoned bar (it's been seeing a lot of traffic lately, what with all the confused people looking for a drink), offering his company without much in the way of hesitation. ] Drinks on me.
[ Don't get too excited: they all taste like vinegar. ]

I've had worse offers.
( but she's going. she's, maybe surprisingly, never been too much of a drinker, so she's at least not about to be too disappointed by the vinegar )
Do you think she made it here? The Mother?
