WOULD YOU GO WITH ME [arrival/hitting the road]

The request had been simple, almost transparently so. The Savrii seemed to hold for them naught but goodwill, and as is her wont, Diana tends to see the best in people when they give her the opportunity. She had been one of the first through the Ingress, willing to help repair relations with the native people in any way she could.

But the planet that was promised is not the one they arrive on, and Diana feels her stomach drop. She turns to question--but the portal is gone. There is nothing behind her but barren wasteland, and in a moment, she knows what has happened: the seemingly good-natured Savrii have stranded those they saw as invaders and interlopers in a desolate place, purged them from the place that some of them had come to call home.

It makes her sick, but she knows that she does not have enough knowledge of the Ingress' strange technology to do anything about it now.

Instead, she brings aid to those around her. They move mostly as a group, and though during the war she had been unable to help most of those suffering around her, now she can. Food is scarce, but Antiope had trained her Amazon warriors to survive on little. Diana shares what she can, though she knows that it will not be enough for long.

IF WE ROLLED DOWN STREETS OF FIRE [wild life]

Since they started moving, Diana has seen shadows out of he corner of her eye. She stays up when the strange sun disappears, watching by the fires for anything that might come close. But the creature (she knows it is a creature of some kind, for she sees its pawprints in the morning) always stays just out of sight.

The second night, it attacks.

She is awake, armored, with her shield resting by her feet. The fire pops and cracks, she shifts, and then hears another cracking--this one not from the fire. In a flash she stands, shield raised just in time to catch the claws of a beast too monstrous in size and appearance to be natural. Sparks fly off the Amazonian metal, screeching along with the creature.

WOULD YOU HOLD ON TO ME TIGHTER [old familiar places]

She is told they are close to the energy source, a promise that seems to have been made for weeks though it has surely only been days. She does not know what it will do for them, but she isn't about to dismiss its promise as folly. Those who have been on Thisavrou much longer than her think it might be the ship they arrived on, and she sees no reason to doubt them.

When the massive ship comes into view, all Diana can do for several moments is stare at it. She's never seen anything like it in her life; the planes she had seen during the war were nothing compared to this. Breathless, she asks: "This was able to fly?"
