The real Mei suffered, but she put on a brave face and continued on; continued with her work. If she wallowed in her hurt forever, she'd never accomplish anything, and her work meant too much to her to do that. Not just to her, either. To those who died. She kept going for herself and her work as much as for them. But the shadow is the part of Mei that will always wake up back there at her lowest point, unable to move forward anymore.
