Where: A park and then a bar
What: Lavellan trips over Hawke in the park and then they go get smashed because that's what you do. I'm dead serious that's actually what this log is about.

[He honestly has no idea how it happened. He walks through the park whenever he's not in Kauto 3, because being surrounded by vegetation is comforting when everything else is dominated by plastic and metal. Or maybe the routine is the problem, and why his mind wasn't entirely there. It doesn't really matter. Whatever the reason, he's walking through the park when he trips over something unexpected and only barely manages to catch himself in time to keep from falling right on his face.

When he gathers together that he did, in fact, trip and fall over something, he finds it oddly unsurprising to look back and find that that something is apparently Marian Hawke. Taking a nap on the ground, as it seems. Who the fuck does that? (Well, he does.)]

We have to stop meeting like this. What would Varric say?

[Hawke awakens with a start when someone's foot collides with her side. That's an unpleasant awakening if she's ever had one. She sits up, runs her hand through her hair to brush some of the grass away, and then looks blearily at him.]

Something about fated meetings and how they drive stories.

[lavelly]

[Rather than getting up, he turns over and sits so that they're more or less at eye level. Since Hawke is still on the ground, doing otherwise would be weird.]

That does sound like him. Er... can I ask why you were sleeping on the ground?

[otiosity]

Taking a nap.

[She responds like he just asked THE STUPIDEST QUESTION EVER.]

[lavelly]

[To be fair to Hawke, it was a pretty stupid question.]

Yes, I see that.

[He considers rewording the question, but then decides to let it go. Hawke seems to deflect similarly to himself, so if she didn't give him a straight answer the first time she probably never will. Instead he stands up finally and brushes himself off.]

I'd apologize for tripping on you, but you were lying on the ground.

[otiosity]

Well, as said, I was napping. Did you expect me to nap standing up?

[And she looks like she's keen to get back to flopping down back on the ground and resume napping. No straight answer is going to happen. Sorry dude.]

[lavelly]

I suppose not.

[He sees that she's about to roll over and a weird impulse grabs him. Like he needs to keep her attention. Which is weird, because it's not like he needs her validation. Aren't they both sadsacks that other people decided were important?]

Do you want to get a drink with me?

[He blurts it out without realizing.]

[otiosity]

[Hawke looks up at him and cocks an eyebrow at his sudden outburst. She's used to... fans. Or was used to. That sort of thing doesn't really happen here and she's much happier for it. The only person who buys her drinks is Nate so he can challenge her to stupid drinking games.

Still...

Free booze.

She shrugs and rolls to her feet in a surprisingly swift motion for someone as lazy as she.]

I suppose I can always nap after a drink. In fact, that might be the better order.

[lavelly]

[He still doesn't know where he's going with this, or why. But something about Hawke makes him think she could be a kindred spirit. Or, if nothing else, that she's fun.

Can't hurt to try and make a few friends. He's not doing very well by his current stock.

He shrugs like it's not really a big deal.]

Do you have a favorite? I haven't had much cause to visit the pubs around here. [Because he drinks alone at his house instead, like a cool dude.]

Hmmm. One that doesn't get cross when you decide that some sparks would really ad to the atmosphere of the bard up on the front.

[Which literally means nothing because she just ducks into the nearest one she sees. It's just a little dive with a wooden bar and tables so it feels a bit more like home than most others do.]

[lavelly]

[That's acceptable, because Lavellan prefers that kind too. Low tech is best tech.

He's the one who asked, so that probably means he's paying. Great. Well, it's not like he was doing anything else with his sencs.

He stops halfway in and waves her toward a table, while he angles himself toward the bar.] What'll it be?

[otiosity]

Whiskey, two shots.

[Seems like enough to knock her on her ass but. That's Hawke just getting started.]

[lavelly]

[Well, might as well keep pace. He orders the same for himself, and plops them unceremoniously on the table at the same time he plops himself unceremoniously in the chair.]

I suppose you're wondering why I asked you to a drink.

[He hesitates, thinking of leaving it at that, but then:]

Honestly, so am I.

[otiosity]

That's alright. We can sit in silence as I enjoy my drink and ponder the great mystery of why we're here.

[She says like this is a normal conversation to have.]

[lavelly]

Oh, good. Then I don't have to.

[He spends a moment passing his glass between his hands before something finally occurs to him to break the awkward silence. It should be up to him, right? This was his idea.

Even if it's a stupid question.]

So, how much of Varric's book is total bullshit?

[otiosity]

[Oh.

Well Hawke hadn't been joking and had been genuinely fine with sitting in silence and just downing her booze. Then he had to open his mouth. Well, alright, she supposes at this point she has to respond.]

I dunno, I haven't read it.

[lavelly]

[Lavellan can't even do conversations right, it seems. But her answer genuinely surprises him.]

Really? Why not?

[otiosity]

It's sort of... long? I mean, I'm a very busy person. Lot's of people to help and kill.

[IT'S LIKE 300 PAGES.]

[lavelly]

[The one core difference between Hawke and Lavellan: their attention span for reading.]

I can understand that. [He rests his cheek on his hand and grins at her, apparently now more at ease.] Still, I'm surprised. If there was a book written about me I'd read it the first chance I had, if only to laugh at it.

[Actually, there probably have been books written about him, but he'd rather not think about that.]

[WHY IS THIS GUY SMILING AT HER. IT'S WEIRD. Unless he wants to bang then... okay. But it's probably not that so WEIRD. She kind of... leans back and takes a huge swig of her drink.]

I considered it but cooler heads prevailed and told me that it wasn't worth my time. Besides, I wouldn't want to read embarrassing stories about myself. Or be disappointed at said lack of humanizing embarrassing stories. But I suppose the people want to know about the sad foibles of their beloved Champion.

[lavelly]

[At least he is not being purposely weird? Sorry, Hawke.]

I can assure you that there were far fewer sad foibles than expected. I was expecting something gossip-worthy and got some far-fetched adventure story instead.

[otiosity]

Well, Varric thinks himself far above some gossip mongering rag. [Hawke says with conviction that she's quoting Varric's exact words because she is.] So here you are. I'm horribly allergic to cats. And horses. And flowers. Sell that to some rag and I'll get to see people trying to jump me with bouquets and kittens while on horseback. Might be interesting.

[lavelly]

At least it's not swords and arrows? [He laughs despite himself. Bouquets and kittens do make for a hilarious image.]

So should I ask him for the real story, or you?

[otiosity]

If that were the case I probably wouldn't be here having a chat.

[Then she shrugs.]

Might depend on which part you're asking about.

[lavelly]

[Well, she is from the past, isn't she? That might be a good place to start.]

Well, we do have an unequal share of information. How many parts do you know?

[Hawke shrugs to indicate very little and that she's not concerned about it. Or at least that's what she tries to convey.]

Let's see. Kirkwall goes to shit and it's apparently my fault. And the world goes to shit and that's also apparently my fault. I know those parts.
