Okay, so dance club was not really the feel Miles was targeting here, but hey, it's a bar, and he and Ivan had decided to go to a bar. Despite the slight strain between himself and Ivan -- he can tell the way Ivan's being more careful around him ever since that outburst in his office, he's not stupid -- he's really jonesing for some kind of social activity with someone he doesn't have any extant romantic tension with, and while Miles has plenty of friends on board, none of them are Ivan, and he does actually like spending time with his cousin. He can be a pain in the ass, but they have fun together. They wouldn't keep doing this kind of shit if they didn't.
There are, at least, plenty of women in the club, which Miles feels should be an automatic draw for Ivan. He's in his Barrayaran uniform -- he probably ought to get some civilian clothes somewhere -- and after a bit of crowd-wrangling they finally get a couple of drinks and snag a table in a crowded corner. "This place isn't too bad, eh?" Miles says, although he has to lean forward and half-shout just to be heard.
