[What's so bad about coming clean? 76 thinks he's more afraid of failing them all a second time than anything else. Saying it's for safety--that if they're all going to return home someday, they're better off not knowing--is just a nice justification for his abject selfishness, isn't it? They all deserve better than anything he can possibly give them, especially given how he is now. He can't live up to their expectations because he doesn't believe in what he used to. He isn't the same.
They won't ever have him back, not really.
But when it all comes down to it, he's injured beyond what he can take care of by himself. He needs her. Always has. Some things aren't going to change. He keeps warning her not to reach out to him--it's all he can really do.]
