"Let them in, and take them out."

[It's never that simple, and thinking it's that easy might be a mistake. This seems like something of a complicated issue.]
Either way, I don't think the Moira was ever supposed to leave here.
[Explains a lot about the captains--the first set of them, at least.]
no subject
[She's a bit behind on some happenings, seeing the time she has been here. And if it's Jack's insight, Ana wants to hear what he's thinking.]
no subject
[That seems clear enough to him. He voices it all ponderously, like he's putting the puzzle pieces together.]
Whole ship falls apart when they try to get us here as fast as they can. Says something, if you ask me.
[Negligence. Imperfect technology. A whole host of things.]
no subject
[She's talking to explore the possibilities. Nothing Ana is speaking of is said in certainty as she honestly doesn't know nor does she have all the information.]
no subject
[The frown is more than evident in his voice. He doesn't need to tell Ana how displeased he is with the situation.]
Doesn't mean the second set is who they say they are, either.
no subject
no subject
[It's not a situation he wants to be in, but he at least knows how to handle himself if there's no other alternative. The frustrating part is knowing that there's nothing the two of them can really do.
Fortunately...]
We've been in worse situations.
no subject
[Which, for the record, Ana can't name a moment like that.]
But....we have always come out ahead.
no subject
[It's a pretty half-hearted joke, all things considered, but she might be able to hear the little grin in his voice. 76 is quick to sober up, however--he knows that getting home is a big if, but since they're supposedly so close, he perhaps can't help but entertain the possibility.]
What are you going to do if we get up there and the thing works?
[If they can get home?]
no subject
[That was her plan, both here and back home. Just because they were in an unknown place didn't mean they had to separate themselves under any circumstance.]
no subject
[And having her at his back is all he wants, even if he'll have to go get her if they actually do get home--it's a good thing that had been his plan, anyway.]
I can't ask you to do that with me.
[Even though he knows she'll argue, 76 wants to offer a cursory warning that the road he's walking leads nowhere good.]
no subject
Jack. Since when have you had to ask me to do anything with you? I will demand it so you may as well give in.
no subject
We're not gonna like what we find.
[Not that it's ever deterred them before. He's trying to tell her that he's about to drag her down a road that goes nowhere good, but he can't quite get that out in so many words.]
You've got Fareeha.
no subject
[Ana knows perfectly well what Jack is trying to say but she's not onboard with it.]
In the end, there is one fact. You need someone you can trust.
no subject
Even when she only just got you back?
no subject
[As always, she thinking in the long terms of family values. Her short term family goals always tended to lag in comparison but that was a weakness she knew she had and still doubled down on it.]
no subject
If he voiced that, however, Ana would just tell him what he already knows--that neither of them are that kind of person.]
Have you talked to her about it?
[At the very least, he won't let Ana disappear on Fareeha again.]
no subject
[It's a tough topic to talk about. But Ana would prefer she didn't get her daughter's scathing comments about being with Soldier as opposed to her. Plus, she really didn't think her heart would be able to handle that conversation in any which way.]
no subject
[His answer is immediate, an echo of his old commanding tone in his voice. It's clear that although he's perfectly content to drag Ana along on his mission, he doesn't like the idea of her disappearing on her family again--because that's what's going to happen, given the road they're planning to walk.]
I'll tell Fareeha I'm alive before I let you do that.
[So that, at the very least, she can blame the right person.]
no subject
[But it does force her hand.]
...I understand. I will at least explain my decision to her.
no subject
You can talk to me about it, you know.
[The tension between her and Fareeha. Jack might not have much to offer by way of advice, but he can certainly listen.]
no subject
[She smiles and shakes her head. Despite her conversation, Ana does have places to vent. Places where she can hear a bit more of a reasonable solution without having to make Jack flounder and wonder what kind of advice he could dispense. If any at all.]
Of all the things you happen to be good at, interpersonal relationships are not among them. I will spare you that burden.
no subject
[Perhaps he's just vaguely hurt that she apparently thinks this is a burden, or is just not interested in sharing that part of herself with him. He's not sure which is worse.]
I used to be a people person.
[He says that with a wry smile, perhaps implying he could try to dig up that part of himself, but only for her.]
no subject
We should probably stop this line of conversation before it depresses the both of us. Instead, we should find a way to put all this information together.
no subject
[She wants to stop the line of conversation, but she should also know that Jack isn't just going to leave well enough alone about it.]
