the inner gate
"Let them in, and take them out."

Through ups and downs, the Moira and the crew have survived much together:

  • During the first wave of arrivals, the ship docks at a planet that has an addictive substance called Exuo — crew went through mood swings, heightened aggression, and fits of paranoia. Natives attempted to kidnap and sacrifice everyone.
  • A solar storm caused a power blip, and strange masks were found in every mailbox that gave them unusual abilities.
  • They reached Caducus Primary, a planet largely comprised of glass. The representative of CP accused the crew and captains of theft; however, they didn’t leave fast enough, and a skirmish caused damage to their Ingress, which ended with Caducus Primary cracking and being destroyed.
  • The power fluctuates and temperatures drop. One of the captains, Tipota, is found dead. This is the introduction of Ploiatos, who ended up being one of the original crew members affected by the power of the Ingress.
  • The Moira docks at Emiri, which was comprised of three main cities where the culture was influenced heavily by finding one’s soulmate. The company responsible for this, Link’d Inc, is incredibly popular throughout the universe. However, hints of forced unions, kidnapping, and slavery are investigated by the crew after an attack on all of the cities by a rebel group. The planet becomes locked down. Benjamin Link joins the crew and helps them escape.
  • Another month passes, and crew dock on Ceta. It is known for it’s unusual atmosphere and its living beings AKA sentient flying whales. They were hunted for valuable organic resources, and eventually, the crew decided to hire mercenaries from outlying planets to protect them from further death.
  • Soon after, the Moira stops at an abandoned prison station called Del Pascia with a resident AI (D-E-L) who was “irritated and snippy” but did not keep crew from exploring and taking items. D-E-L tried to persuade crew to stay, and when it became clear no one wanted to, D-E-L tried to infect them as she had infected those who’d remained behind in the prison. Everyone fought and escaped.
  • Amissis-Re is an unregistered planet that had no signs of life — the crew’s next stop. Here, they meet a “host” who had done the impossible and “fixed” the Ingress. However, she only reversed the energy of the Ingress, which created melted worlds and made it incredibly dangerous to discern reality from the time inside these worlds. The host gifts some of the crew with journals after she decides to go through the Ingress and remain there.
  • The Moira begins to malfunction, and those of Caducus Secondary, along with survivors of Caducus Primary, hunt the ship and those inside it for revenge. Negotiations started while crew tried to set up defenses aboard. Due to prior issues, the Ingress shuts off, resulting in the melding of Caducun glass with the ship and everyone aboard. When the Ingress finally stabilizes, the Moira is now in a different universe: the Runoff.
  • Some members of the crew are found on a slavery outpost in the Runoff, and others make a stealthy rescue effort to bring them back to the Moira. First Mate Egan and Captain Ira appear through the Ingress, explaining that they are the original members of the Moira designated to pilot the ship. The old captains hand over authority to them as the ship drifts into the Luminous Sea.
  • The ship crashes into one of the moons within the Luminous Sea where crew find a group of natives who are overly friendly. They beckon them to stay with food, drink, and much more. Unbeknownst to those who stay with them, an entire year passes. Eventually, what is wrong with the Moira is patched so they can leave.
  • After months of hard travel, the crew explore the wonders of the Mini Colony. A closed ceremony held on the MC caused crew to change in ways they’d never experienced before. Yet, during the festivities, someone triggered the “fear machine”, and crew suffered from phobias once back on the ship.
  • Those working on the Ingress pick up a signature for the Midway Hub and begin to make preparations to go there. The new species Ploiatos has become is named Mirtis (meer-tees); some of the crew kill him before things get too out of control again as they had in the previous months. The Ingress is then turned on, and the ship falls into a time slip.
  • The Moira crashes on the Midway Hub.
  • Captain Ira draws a map and encourages crew to split up and travel to the Inner Gate of the Midway Hub. Once inside the Outer Gate, crew experience de-powering — a safety protocol of those who’d worked on the Hub. Exploration and survival are a key focus during this time. They move through a network of caves to find the entrance to the Inner Gate.
  • After a brief respite, crew learn that the entrances to Gate A and Gate B are inside one of the caves. Groups are split, TABS are synced, and crew explore carefully until an entrance is found. Crew discover Gate A first, and all crew are contacted to gather there. The captains remain at the cave entrance until all crew are accounted for, and then, they enter through the gate together.

  • Finally, after entering through the Inner Gate, the crew head down through a system of tunnels that lead them to an underground - and main - section of the Midway Hub. Initial scans show that there is a catacomb of rooms and hallways that seem to have been patched together hastily and messily, suggesting that the builders added on new areas as they were needed. Anyone who has abilities, and tries to use them now, will realize that they are no longer depowered as they had been for the last several weeks. Crew are allowed to explore and are encouraged to look for any evidence as to why the previous tenants are gone, as well as take any supplies found or find ways to radio out for assistance.

    FLOOR ONE - jan. 3rd
Deeper in, the first level of the Hub is littered with thousands of papers and notes regarding things on the Ingress. Some are highly classified while others are of the smallest consequence to anyone reading them. Upon closer inspection, some of the things listed might even make sense to those of the crew slightly familiar with Ingress technology—reports of energy distortion and time slips, effects of the energy on those traveling through it, how to isolate particular parts of the Ingress' energy and use them to transport to other places. Only a portion of these documents are legible; the majority have either been torn into pieces or charred. Smaller rooms can be found here as well, offices and labs that are only large enough to hold five or six people at a time, and within some of them, pieces of machinery and electronics can be found. Most recognizable are the circular-curved mechanisms that belong to an Ingress. Yet, rather than just one, there are hundreds. Some have been left in piles of twisted, melted hunks, and some, those parts still (probably) capable of being used if the occasion presented itself, are thrown about carelessly, tossed under desks and under chairs and even embedded in parts of the walls where they - more than likely - exploded.

Not much else can be found on this level. Unless empty cups and broken computers are justifiable as something.

    FLOOR TWO - jan. 4th
Crew who travel even further within the Hub will find that not all things have been deserted. Sort of. What greets anyone who explores here is the visible evidence that some sort of intense struggle happened between those who worked on the Hub and a group of outsiders. Dead bodies cover the floors, in hallways, and inside personal quarters. The one constant in the tableau is that none of them died in any sort of peace, and the visceral knowledge of that is clear by the amount of blood spilled and the putrid smell that comes from it having been sealed off for such a long time. Be careful to tread lightly and step with caution. Also, breathing the air for any more than a few seconds without some sort of filter isn’t advisable. Items worth taking might be in the form of blankets and clothes, but most of it seems to have been taken in a rush.

    FLOOR THREE - jan. 5th
And even further within the Hub, below the offices and labs and unfortunate death, a power source can be found. From obvious signs, it is clear that someone had lived here recently, and anyone who looks through some of the things left behind will find a list of recordings readily available to them. They are as follows:

FLOOR FOUR - jan. 6th to the 24th
Inside the Ingress Channel, a group of fifteen have taken up a defensive position, standing in a small circle towards the back. When approached, they’ll tell crew to stay where they are; they want to talk to them but with lots of space between. There doesn’t appear to be a leader of this diverse group, but one person comes forward and asks who they are and what they were doing on the Moira as they had seen it crash. With this new group being unwilling to divulge any information, the conversation is slow to reveal anything important or useful.

Through patience and diplomatic efforts by the crew, the following is eventually discovered: these people call themselves Savrii and aren’t native to the Midway Hub. The Savrii aren’t hostile, though they are skittish at first. Their people were sent through the Ingress to destroy all the documented research on Ingress technology and energy that could be found here, taking out anyone who tried to stop them. Their mission was critical, meant to protect the universe from those tampering with such an unstable, natural force. During the incursion, the Ingress machines on the Hub were damaged, and they are what’s left of the group of Savrii that didn’t make it back through before the machine shut down. They’ve seen footage and schematics of the Moira and would have destroyed it, too, if it had landed instead of crashing. The Moirans did the job for them.

Their people don’t believe in fighting or chaos, unless the Ingress energy is being manipulated in any way. The ship was the first of its kind, created by severing some of the energy from the whole. This upset an already delicate balance and caused issues with Ingresses all across the universes. The Savrii liken it to taking a child away from its mother. When the crew explain that they were only passengers, the Savrii believe them. They lower their weapons and open the floor to peaceful discussion. From this point, crew learn that the Savrii have been surviving here as they try to fix one of the Ingress machines, which they are close to but are lacking one of the key elements. Science technicians from the Moira, who have studied the Ingress will realize that after sorting through the wreckage the part they need survived the crash, and with help, the crew are able to assist in replacing the broken element.

When the Ingress is rebooted, they send one of their group through, who returns a moment later with good news. The damage on this side didn’t affect the Ingress Complex on the other, a place where the Ingress Energy was first discovered and built around. They tell of their home, with the largest and first Ingress machine, that is a mecca of travel and culture. It might not be the crew's original homes, but the Ingress there is functioning, and they can use it.

The Savrii can go home. The Moirans are allowed to come with them.

    Step through the Ingress and

The gesture puts Flynn at ease; this is at least going better than any of the other 'but why did you work for a war criminal' conversations he's had.

"Not the first time she's done that," he grumbles. "What about you, eh? How do you know Wonder Boy?"
    buyeverything: (stuff and things)

    [personal profile] buyeverything 2017-01-13 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't it fun griping about people we hate, Harry? Especially with someone who will most definitely agree with you. Rafe turns, slowly wandering over to another nearby body, sword coming out to use as a makeshift stick for poking around at things. Lifting limbs, rolling the body over a bit, looking for anything he might want.

Nothing much to be honest. The sword is probably the best thing he'll find today.

"Heh, Wonder Boy. Cute." More like Wonder Bread. Cheap and lame with a cool name to it.

"I bought our way into a Panamanian jail. The boys wanted to look for clues regarding Henry Avery's treasure." Rafe says 'boys' leaving it ambiguous, because Chloe seemed shocked to hear of another Drake, did this guy not know either?
    flynnitomite: (we'll be nemeses)

Bought their way into a jail? Now that's risky, he was always was in the business of staying out of those. But what's most interesting is that it's clear that Mr. Adler is the financier in this little operation.

"Oh I see, you're the money. So what did he and Victor do? Run off and leave you on the hook behind bars?"
    buyeverything: (bleeeeh)

    [personal profile] buyeverything 2017-01-16 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
Risks are needed sometimes, Harry. He had the money to mitigate them at times, unless you know. Someone stabs a guard suddenly and ruins everything. Cough.

"That's me." The money. "Victor? Oh no no, Victor wasn't a part of this, not directly." He no doubt knew about what was going on, outside man just in case things went bad on the inside and they couldn't get out and all. Rafe glances back over at Harry then, turning slightly.

"No one ran off on anyone actually, but things went sideways when the guard I was bribing tried to threaten us for a cut of the treasure. We had to make a run for it and managed to escape, but Sam didn't make it. Unfortunate circumstances, but Nate couldn't get over it and ended up being absolutely useless after the fact. Wasted my damn time and money before quitting on me." Rafe shrugs, knowing that that probably doesn't seem like any reason to dislike him as much as he seems to, but he's keeping the rest close to his chest for now.

Victor not being involved directly isn't what throws him—after all he knows better than anyone that he's not always on a job with Drake. But that Drake would be that torn up that someone bought it on a job that went sideways? After all they'd both known two guys who died in a failed attempt at the Turkish museum, and yeah Nate sulked a little because he was always a little soft like that but this? Morever, he gave up on a job? Should he know this Sam guy?

"That's a bit of an extreme reaction, don't you think? Unless he and this Sam bloke were ... y'know?"

He raises an eyebrow. Things happen in prison.

buyeverything: (slowly dying on the inside)

    [personal profile] buyeverything 2017-01-16 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"Wha-" He actually looks confused for a split second, brows knit as he faces Harry completely. Then it clicks and he just laughs. Holy shit that's... that's great. One that Harry clearly has no idea who Sam is and two that he assumes Nate and him were a thing of some sort.

"Christ no." And a few chuckles peter out cause it's actually pretty dang funny.

"You really don't know who Sam is?" Rub it in that Nate doesn't tell anyone anything super important apparently, or about him either. Guess he was part of the Sam package. The don't tell anyone this package.

"Sam was Nate's brother." In a tone that's more 'duh' than anything else.
    flynnitomite: (Baby I don't mind)

    [personal profile] flynnitomite 2017-01-16 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"You're having me on. You're telling me there were two of them?" He laughs. This is just rich. Although he's not particularly surprised he's never heard of a dead brother before—he can't imagine when that would have ever come up in the first place, nor would he have cared to hear the sob story.

It is interesting, however, in that maybe Drake really did give up on this job. That there's a treasure out there that his brother died for and he still hasn't gotten his hands on it. If he could find it ... well, that would be bloody brilliant, wouldn't it?

An inkling of hope flickers in his heart.

"So. The Avery treasure—did he ever find it?"

He still honestly has only a vague, foggy clue about who Henry Avery is, but he can fudge it on context clues. He's done it before.
    buyeverything: (the trash lord reigns)

    [personal profile] buyeverything 2017-01-18 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"There was two of them. Sam was his older brother, his death was an unfortunate mishap." Says the guy who was more than ready to leave Sam Drake to burn to death on that goddamn pirate ship.

Rafe's expression sours and he sneers, not exactly at Harry per se, just at the idea of Nate being the one to find the treasure. If anyone wants to get technical, they all found it, but as far as Rafe is concerned, Nate doesn't deserve any recognition for it. Or his stupid brother.

"He didn't find anything. I've been looking for it since he gave up. Nate seems to think that if you don't find something within a few months that it's not worth it." Okay so he's projecting here, but whatever.

"Some of the greatest historical finds have taken years. Decades. Either way he'd become nothing but a damn hindrance and I was glad to see him go. Probably would have gotten some where if his brother were still alive, but well. Shit happens." Shrugged. "Not that I'm going to find any pirate treasure here on some alien planet. At least not the one I was looking for."
flynnitomite: (If you even notice me)

    [personal profile] flynnitomite 2017-01-25 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
"Well obviously," Flynn shrugs. "But I'm just saying—if we ever get off this rock and back to our rock, my schedule is clear."

Not that he's particularly game for decades of work, but who knows he could wrap it up in a few months time, rub it in Drake's face, then drink himself stupid and wake up with a stranger in an island country. That's the dream, isn't it?

Better than scrapping over corpses, anyway.
    buyeverything: (hands)

    [personal profile] buyeverything 2017-01-28 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
How would that even work. Could the Ingress and these alien people do that? Just send two dead men back to where they came from and they'll be alive? Who knows at this point, not that Rafe is telling anyone his actual situation back home. Yet.

"I'll take a look at my schedule." Said with a charming little smile, "If we get back that is. Even if we do who knows how that shit works. Will they wipe our minds, making us forget our fateful meeting here among corpses?" Such fate, much destiny.

"If not I could use someone who's actually interested in working and not just fucking every Scottish girl in the countryside in mourning." Is that a jab at Nate? It sure as hell is.
    flynnitomite: (Always so unafraid)

    [personal profile] flynnitomite 2017-01-28 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"Listen mate if we forget this ever happened then it's no different than some weekends I've had," he chuckles.

Now in all honesty he couldn't promise he wouldn't be bedding lonely Scottish lassies because good God Scottish weather is shite and what else is there to do?
He can, however, understand being bitter over Nathan Drake being a complete slut.

"I can assure you that I do take pride in professionalism in my line of work, unlike our mutual acquaintance."

    buyeverything: (bleeeeh)

    [personal profile] buyeverything 2017-02-01 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
High five for being bitter about Nathan Drake period.

"Good to hear, I like a professional." Someone who's not going to waste his money or his goddamn time, which seems to be a trend for him. At least when it comes to Drake brothers. Rafe has a wander nearby Flynn, disliking standing still when he could be having a look while they chit chat. Kneeling down to have a look see at someone who's not squishy or melting, thank god, Rafe keeps up their conversation.

"... have to wonder though, with you relating more to these guys, would you end up alive after everything or stay... you know." Rafe pat pats the corpse beside him. Dead.

    flynnitomite: (we'll be nemeses)

    [personal profile] flynnitomite 2017-02-01 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Flynn rolls his eyes at the gesture. Way to be morbidly dramatic about it, Rafe.

"People don't keel over after leaving a hospital for have a life-saving surgery, do they? Nobody dies all over again because they're supposed to be dead, it don't work like that," Harry shrugs. "I don't see why this would be any different."

And if it is, well, he'll be dead and Rafe won't have to spend a dime. Kind of an odd point for him to get stuck on.
    buyeverything: (don't care nate)

    [personal profile] buyeverything 2017-02-03 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
You mean this isn't how you make a forever best friend? Discussing his deadness back home? His bad. Part of it is his own thoughts considering his own mortality and such, not that Flynn knows about his state of dead.

"This is a little different than that. I guess you'll just end up in some alternate universe. Another timeline. Whatever sci-fi bullshit you wanna call it." Rafe shrugs. He's still not sure of that himself, but it's something he ponders. Probably far too much.
    flynnitomite: (of all your enemies)

    [personal profile] flynnitomite 2017-02-03 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
"What, like that movie where a man comes to Earth and everyone's a monkey instead of people?"

He hadn't thought of that. He doesn't much like monkeys, as they're smelly and remind him far too much of Drake. He'd hope for a better timeline than that. One where he's not dead and filthy stinking rich would be nice.
    buyeverything: (dont expect proper keywords)

    [personal profile] buyeverything 2017-02-05 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Planet of the Apes, yes. Maybe if you're lucky you'll end up in a timeline where Nate never existed at all." Rafe himself could only dream of such luck. Or a timeline where Nate died and he lived. He'll take that one.

He'll stand then, brushing his pants off and seems bored with things now. More just tired of the corpses and not finding much else beyond his new fancy sword.

    "Any luck beyond your pants?"
flynnitomite: (Now I can't help thinking)

    [personal profile] flynnitomite 2017-02-05 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
Flynn is dumbstruck for a moment because his first thought is ... no, he wouldn't want to end up in a timeline where Nathan Drake never existed at all. Before things went south they had made some good money together. And there may have been a time when he wasn't a total insufferable prat.

But he is now and he does want Nate to get his, somehow.

Regardless, it's disconcerting to think this after hating him for so long and even finally putting a bullet in him.

"Oh shame, I think I'd rather like watching him dance about as a monkey," he laughs, eventually.

He casually kicks one of the corpses over, a petty gesture that somehow makes him feel better.

"Nothing good. Just these unflattering trousers," he says.
    buyeverything: (what garbage)

    [personal profile] buyeverything 2017-02-08 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
Rafe won't think any less of Harry for it, they were already dead, not harm in giving them a kick. Though it is beating a dead horse in a sense, but hey if it made him feel better. Why not.

"I dunno, weird physical changes happen periodically it seems. If we're lucky he'll get turned into one." Unlucky for them if Nate starts flinging his poo around.

"And I don't know if I'd call them unflattering, they really accentuate your ankles." Harry sure can't see the shit eating grin on Rafe's face, but he can no doubt hear it.
    flynnitomite: (It's a crying shame)

    [personal profile] flynnitomite 2017-02-08 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh yeah that's real cute," Flynn sneers. "Are you going to offer me some tasteful pumps to go with?"
    buyeverything: (smarmy asshole icon)

    [personal profile] buyeverything 2017-02-11 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
    He laughs, because god no.

"Look the last thing you need," Rafe points at him, "Is more inches." Harry is tall enough, thank you very much.
