The first shot punches clean through insulated mesh, dense muscle, heavier bone. He can differentiate each sound even through the muffling effect of his helmet's auditory input. Nihlus nearly drops his gun. That hollow wailing rises back up to a deafening angry howl and the Spectre suddenly finds himself bathed in the red glow of the monster's gaze.
The second shot shatters one of those 'eyes', painting splatters of dark fluids across weathered, red-lit brass. Its howling turns into a borderline shriek that sends the scales on the back of his neck standing on end.
The third shot ricochets off the monster's drill arm and he starts backing up now, one step for every step the thing takes forwards. At the very last second, Nihlus turns and sprints, ignoring the thump THUMP THUMPTHUMP that was picking up behind him. Just need to focus on getting it away from Rinzler and hope he's right about being faster than the monster on his tail.
