( december intro log )

Who: Everyone
When: December 1st and on
Where: Throughout the Moira
What: Repercussions of Caducus Primary + New Arrivals + The Unknown
Warnings: None, but please label anything you do that needs a warning

SHIP LIFE
"In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments; there are consequences."

The Ingress has pulled you in. Your body experiences several sensations at once: being pushed forward as if a hand is resting on your back, momentary and startling blindness, a gentle ringing in your head. You have difficulty discerning whether it is hot or cold, but where you have been prodded is noticeably warmer than the rest of you. Some may suffer from dizziness while others are perfectly fine. Once equilibrium has been reestablished, you will notice you are standing on a long platform and that the room is filled with a soft cerulean light. It's slightly humid and dark despite the glow around you, and various machines line the walls on either side, though they are not accessible from where you stand. Shortly after, you are led out and toward the medbay.

Inside this room, you are given a physical scan and sign a contract that states you are now part of the crew of the Moira with a specific job. This process consists of a complete work-up of medical history and current health, and afterwards, you are given your MID, a device that is integrated into your hand with only the slightest pinch. From there, you are guided out of the medbay and to your living quarters.

MERO DECKNOMO DECKMORO DECK

Due to the circumstances of Caducus Primary, the captains appear abnormally absent. Unlike before, they will not be seen or heard from after processing the newest members of the crew. They can still be contacted via their MID devices for emergencies only, but otherwise, they have retreated to their rooms and clearly do not want disturbed. They are displeased with the events and will be less accommodating in regards to resources and rank privileges. In fact, they may feel less like a privilege and more like a punishment.

DRUM THRUM THUD
Reverberations of what has happened to Caducus Primary are still being felt despite having left the chaos behind. After the initial influx of new crew, there seems to be the occasional flicker of the power all throughout the Moira—like a pulse, a breath. Do the shadows move, or is it just a trick of the light? Several hours pass, and a message flashes across all MIDs. It is labeled urgent and comes directly from Thán; however, any responses will be automatically rejected.

Our ship has sustained minor outer damage, and the systems are fluctuating as they reboot themselves individually. Take care of darker areas, and travel with other crew if you need to leave your room.

Crew safety is severely stressed this month, especially after what's occurred, and anyone in need of medical attention is to report to the Medbay posthaste. Yet, the crew may soon realize it's not only the power that appears to be having issues as the days progress in their travels.

IN THE FRIDGE
From the 3rd on, things start to grow a bit chilly. With current power issues, a problem that even those in areas responsible for its function cannot seem to solve, there has been a steady decline of less vital life support systems. It soon grows cold enough that sections of the ship that house any sort of water systems may find them slowly freezing over, and even showers don't seem as warm as they should be. ( Those in Mero Deck may find their communal bathroom a rink. ) In the mess hall, late in the evening after all shifts are finished, several pipes rupture and create particles of ice (snow) and a solid slippery sheet across the entirety of the floor. Melting it may be a temporary solution, but as there is no way to keep the water in its liquid form, it might be inadvisable to try more than once.

Other areas of the ship are also open to exploration, though they may be affected by the power and temperature changes as well. Please advise the captains' warning.

( ooc; For questions, go here. Please comment to activity check to receive new ranks (if applicable)! )

mess hall

[ Making his way to his room late in the day, he walks right past the mess hall. The sound of the burst pipes catch his attention, and he makes a quick detour to see what it is. Something else not working, he figures.

It's a strange sight. The ice-covered floor, the brilliant particles spraying out of the pipe - and the woman, standing there, watching as if it's just an impressive show, and not a rather serious problem. ]

And dangerous.

[ He frowns a little, trying to place her in his memory - but he can't. He doesn't remember seeing her on board before, at least. ]

I'll... report that. Someone might come and fix it.

[It'll be over too soon, she realizes, but that's probably for the best. It's beautiful but not practical.]

I came across this mess first and can report it if you'd like?

[She isn't exactly sure who she should tell, though, and her expression says as much. Farin turns to face him, brushing some 'snow' from her hair with her fingertips.]

Or I can begin cleaning it up.. if you could point me in the right direction for both.

[Farin gives the man a sheepish look. She could go to a captain, but she'd really rather not.]
hyperkinesia: (How's he doing?)

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2015-12-05 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
That's alright. I'll just... send a message.

[ To the captains, or one of the subsections. He's not entirely sure how to approach the issue either, especially during a time when the whole ship seems to be going haywire, but the two of them won't be able to do much right now. ]

You don't have to. I don't think it would do a lot of difference right now anyway.

[ Not until the burst pipe gets fixed. The snow-like phenomenon would just make a mess of the floor all over again. ]

Sorry, you're... new on the ship, aren't you?

[personal profile] misalign 2015-12-06 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
I appreciate that.

[She didn't want to not do her part on the ship. Farin had signed on and was a willing member of the crew. She didn't want to jeopardize her position by not cleaning if she was supposed to.]

I am new. Is it obvious? [It was probably really obvious, but she didn't see the point in blending in.] I'm from Caducus Primary, the last planet the Moira docked.

I decided to sign on for work.

[Farin does a good job of sounding casual, like it's almost not a big deal what had happened. It's easier for her that way, even though it's probably not healthy.]

My name is Farin.
hyperkinesia: (Peace in our time.)

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2015-12-07 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
A little bit. [ His tone is light there, at first, he almost smiles too. But then she keeps talking, and all that is replaced with a look of complete shock. It's obvious she's thrown him off balance with that - it might just not be obvious why.

It seems that wherever he turns, this ship keeps throwing new reminders of what he did in his face. Not that he doesn't deserve them, but it hits hard every time, and it's not just a bitter taste in his mouth: it's like swallowing acid, burning him from the inside out with every clench of his throat.

He takes half a step away, eyes falling to the floor. His voice is very quiet and small when he speaks, clearly meaning it as more than just giving her condolences, like most anyone else might have. ]

I'm sorry.

[personal profile] misalign 2015-12-09 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
[Farin isn't certain of what she's said to offend, no upset, the man. She thinks back to her words, carefully combing over everything, and while it isn't immediately obvious, a few seconds later and she realizes what it could be.

Where she's from. Who she is. Of course there would be crew that feel guilty, and somewhat responsible.]

Your apologies are not necessary. I understand very well what happened.

[She lays a hand on his shoulder, squeezing gently before stepping back again to give him his space.]

My planet's internal structure was very weak. Some of my people protested the Ingress technology, predicting exactly what has happened.

[Her blame lie with that, because that was what she was told had happened. A mistake in the relay of information, probably, but it was the only truth she knew.]
hyperkinesia: (Thank you for coming.)

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2015-12-09 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Bruce has very specific reasons to feel guilty. Not just that the ship landed there, and that if it hadn't, then the planet would have been safe-- but that the monster going on a rampage is here right now, inside him. The planet's destruction, in the end, is more his fault than anyone else's, because even with the hostile treatment they got by the end, had Bruce been on board already then none of it would have happened as it did.

He tenses a little at the hand on his shoulder, an instinctive reaction more than anything, but he doesn't jerk away from it. It takes him a moment to process her words, to make sense of it. Didn't she know of the Hulk? She has to have seen him, right? Or at least, have heard of him? ]

The Ingress-- no. The Ingress didn't damage your planet.

[ He still can't figure out if that's really what she believes happened. And he could've easily let it slip by, but honesty is about the only thing he has in his favor right now. Besides, he would rather she hear it from him than from someone else on the ship. ]

Is that what you think happened?
misalign: (40)

[personal profile] misalign 2015-12-09 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[It was, but she could see now that it wasn't what he'd thought had happened.]

Didn't it?

[Farin thinks back, brow furrowed, trying to remember each small and large detail of those few days. The warnings from the representative entreating them to get to safety, the frantic tellings of how the Ingress had been compromised and they had to leave. Signing on to work as a crew member of the Moira. It had all been a lot, very quickly.]

I was disconnected, you see. From the rest of my people. I worked. Lived. Took care of my mother. I only knew that someone damaged the Ingress and our planet wouldn't, didn't, survive that.

[She thinks he looks awfully apologetic for a man that was just part of the crew that her people held responsible. She does want to understand. At the very least, she wants to understand him.]

What don't I know?
hyperkinesia: (To become better.)

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2015-12-10 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Not... exactly.

[ If he looks more apologetic than the rest of the crew would, or should, it's for good reason. What she does know isn't wrong, either, but it's definitely not the whole story, and being here on the ship, he knows it's just a matter of time for her to learn about all the details.

So, he bites back the hesitance, and goes on to explain a little more of the story. ]

It wasn't just someone. There was a monster. It came-- with the ship. In a way. [ How does he even begin to explain that the monster is inside one of the members of the crew? Inside of him? He's sure she'll ask in no time, though, so for now he keeps it less specific. ]

He got loose. It was an accident. The natives didn't know, but they triggered that. The monster went on a rampage on your planet. Other crew members tried to stop him, but he was too strong. The damage to the Ingress happened because of a fight between that monster and one particularly strong man on the crew.

[ Normally that would've been enough to push the Hulk back, to force him into running away, but the glass planet was too frail for that. By the time the fight started, the place was probably already cracked to the core. ]

[personal profile] misalign 2015-12-12 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
[Farin listens quietly, carefully, trying to line up the events of her own timeline with what the man is telling her. It matches up for the most part and she knows that it makes sense. Something or someone damaged the Ingress and that destroyed her planet. By association, yes, it was the monster's fault, but not directly. It might not mean much to some people, but it meant something to her.

She was not completely forgiving, but she could come to an understanding after she learned more.]

I understand what you're saying. My only question is why did they do it? Do you know? It's something I would like to know now.

[She reaches up and pushes her hair back, twists and tugs at the ends. Farin frowns as she looks away, eyes unfocused and she attempts to imagine why this monster did what they did.]

Does that mean they're still here?
hyperkinesia: (It's a nightmare.)

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2015-12-14 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry. There was no reason. [ He says it with a little too much certainty there, clear that he has some kind of intimate knowledge. ] He was just a rampant monster.

[ Not always, but this time, that was very much the case. There was no shred of control or awareness, no reason despite there being a cause for the transformation. Luckily, most times he was in control of those transformations, but... that wasn't one of those times. ]

In a manner of speaking. [ Of course she'd ask; he was expecting it, even. But it doesn't make what he has to tell her any easier. ] It's... me. Well, not me, but it's in me.

[ He opens his mouth, closes it again, wanting to say more but not even sure where to start. In the end, he just waits in silence for whatever she says, whatever reaction she needs to have, and whatever questions she might ask him. ]
misalign: (21)

[personal profile] misalign 2015-12-16 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
What?

[Her tone, though surprised, is much more disbelieving than anything else. Farin knows that their are things in the universes that she doesn't and won't understand, forces she'll never encounter, magic and science she'll never know, but this is harder for her to come to terms with.

The man standing in front of her is telling her that the creature that started the end of everything is inside of him, is him somehow, and is taking the blame for all the loss.]

How can you admit that?

[Farin's brow furrows, lower lip trembling before she stops it.]

I can tell by the way you hold yourself that you didn't want them to do what they did. And I might not understand how it is inside of you, but. Why would you confess to me, when normally a person in my place would hate you for the role you had in this?

How can something so unreasonable be inside some like you?

[More than anything right then, she's amazed. Amazed that he would take that burden, amazed that he would admit anything to her, and she isn't well adjusted enough to process for than one emotion at a time.]
hyperkinesia: (The lullaby worked better than ever.)

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2015-12-16 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[ It's not what he expected, but then again he wasn't sure what he was expecting to begin with. Some possibilities did come to mind, but still, he wasn't exactly prepared for any of them. He didn't wake up thinking he'd have this conversation anyway, so there's not much he could've done to prepare himself for it. ]

Because... you're here. You deserve to-- to know. I can't do anything to make it right, but at least I can be honest about it.

[ Which is in good part the reason why, but there is another, and he goes on to add. ] Not to mention that if you hadn't heard it from me, then you'd have heard it from someone else.

[ And he wasn't trying to hide it, not anymore. There's not much point here, not after what's happened. He's sure somewhere in the ship's systems, all the information will be written down, the information stored away, so even if he and everyone else currently on the ship leaves eventually, whoever comes after will still know all about it, by only looking up the information. ]

That's a little complicated to explain. [ He could make it simple, but it makes more sense to just tell the whole story. He thinks so, at least. ] But I can tell you, if you want to know.
misalign: (17)

[personal profile] misalign 2015-12-18 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
Being deserving doesn't mean that it's on you to carry that burden. I appreciate it all the same.

[Farin thought it was horribly unfair that a man that would want to tell her this, risking whatever reaction she'd have, a man that doesn't seem to her to be a bad or unkind man, would have a monster inside of himself that he had no control over. She's unsure of how she feels, about any of it. A part of her wants to run away, to hide from him and everything, but there is a part of her, a stronger part, that wants to know more.

Always know more.]

I want you to tell me. As much as you are able to, because I just want to understand.

[She glances up, meets his eyes briefly, and then her shoulders sag. Farin isn't prepared enough for this, but she will do her best.]

Somewhere else? Or do you want to continue this here?
hyperkinesia: (He needs me in a cage?)

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2015-12-21 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Except it is for him to carry that burden, or so he believes. He might've not chosen to attack those people or to destroy that planet, but he could have taken steps and made choices to avoid the circumstances that led to his transformation. And that's on him, no matter what anyone says. ]

Alright. [ He nods, gesturing down the hallway. ] We'll keep a little warmer while we walk?

[ He won't take her anywhere strange or far, but moving around does keep him distracted from the cold. Since he was headed to the living quarters anyway, he just resumes his walk there. ]

It wasn't purposeful. The creation of the monster, I mean. I had an accident some years ago, while I was working at a lab. It should've killed me, but instead it gave me... that. [ He pauses for a moment, giving her the time to ask any questions she might have. There's a lot to tell, so it's just easier if she directs the conversation to where she wants it to go. ]
misalign: (48)

[personal profile] misalign 2015-12-24 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, that would help.

[Farin adjusts her gait to match Bruce's, hands loosely clasped in front of her. She tries to keep her expression level, not guarded, but more cautious so she doesn't upset him.]

It was science that changed you?

[Farin comes from a world that has no certain guidelines about the differences between magic and science, so she applies the terms loosely. What can be explained is science, what can't is magic. Though it probably isn't accurate, or at the very least, not the same way everyone else interprets it, it's what she knows.]

And it could not change you back? Do you want it gone?
hyperkinesia: (So he's building another portal.)

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2015-12-24 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
[ Well, he won't take it to heart if she does upset him somehow. She's been surprisingly calm and accepting about all of this as it is, so it's already going a lot better than he could've ever expected. ]

Yes. I wasn't told about all the details of the experiment, though I didn't know that at the time. When I realized what I was actually working on... it was too late for me.

[ There is a reason why he dislikes the Army or any government agencies, and it's not just because they've chased him all the way across the globe since the accident. There are always secrets, things kept on a need-to-know basis. That doesn't sit well with him, much less so now. ]

I do want it gone, yes. Of course. [ He'd have to be a soulless psychopath to want to keep a monster that he might lose control of at any moment inside him. ] But it's not happening. I've tried finding a cure before. It... didn't go too well.
