OTA ツJune Event☽ CARNIVAL

Who: Everyone!
When: Month of June (whenever)
Where: Kauto: Region II: Ellguana Fields.
What: Carnival!
Warnings: Please warn appropriately on subjects, thanks.

Illguana Fields Carnival
The Ellguana Farms is hosting a carnival this month. There are rides, food, shows, and experiences surely to be had by all! Most importantly this is a great occasion to come together and meet new people, to learn of each other, to branch out and broaden your horizons! Perhaps most importantly this is a great opportunity to reminiscence on worlds of your past and to learn through the cumulative efforts of those come before you. The carnival will have various components of technology and diverse themes to facilitate an excellent experience enhanced by the sheer will of hard working inhabitants coming together to celebrate diversity!

☾ Rides ☽
The rides were something Ardyn can imagine as fun and attractive for those who were easily captivated by bright lights and adventure! Although he would have find more fun flying around with his own power, he could appreciate the allure of being strapped into a mechanical machine and carried through a series of spins and gravity defying lifts. The lines were evidence enough of many people who have come to the rides for one reason or another;
the bright lights or that daring feeling of being at the mercy of machinery. He stood in line, his partner for the ride was tight against his chest. A prized teddy bear that he won at the coin toss booth. He was quite fond of the stuffed bear, the brown animal had an uncharacteristically large square head and a much smaller body. It reminded him of a moogle.

☾ Food ☽
Ardyn has been assured that one of the main events at any carnival should be the food. The rides, the games, the fun lights and vibrant characters were great, but give the crowd something wonderful to eat and they'll be sure to come back for it again and again. In fact, he was guaranteed that the food would stick to memory more than a show or ride! Naturally, with the hype he'd been described, he would have to try the carnival food.
With so many booths, however, he was finding it difficult where to sample first. To receive further direction he decided to ask the next person he would come next to. "If you would be so kind as to direct me to a food booth, perhaps your finest recommendation?"

☾ Games ☽
There were various booths set up with all kinds of entertainment. Some games required skill in fine motor skills, others strength, and most of them required simple luck. Ardyn had played most of the games, some he had lost (which he was delightfully frustrated about)
and some of the games he had won a prize, though he was finding the fun in the game to be even more rewarding then the obligatory prize at the end of a win.

☾ Shows ☽
Freak Shows seemed a bit derogatory in his opinion, however, having been at this function for quite a few days already he found himself educated in the culture of the carnival life. There was a sense of unity amongst the workers and so called Freaks, it left an impression of genuine homeostasis amongst the workers. Everyone had their part in bringing this carnival together and there did not seem to be any bad blood causing tension between one man to another. Be it the bearded woman, the ticket accountant, the pinheads, or lizard man, they all seemed to get along and look after one another while gaining a profit for all. He found that quite interesting, especially here in the worlds where humans were not the only species of people here. Ardyn was in line for a show of sword-swallowing and fire blowing. It sounded dangerous and exciting.

[ ooc; hello! Ardyn's taken up the position as an event organizer, which just basically means I'll be posting a log each month of some local even in which everyone is absolutely invited to!! This month's event is the Ellguana Carnival. Please enjoy! You can reply to any of these prompts or create your own, and/or make a top thread OTA/CLOSED to CR etc! You don't have to respond to Ardyn at all in any of the prompts! Additionally, you may see an instafeed on his mobile page re: events!]

OTA ☢ FOOD☽

Isaac was not shy about his haul of food, in fact, he had to spread it out over a full table of four before he was able to dig in. Various people already passed him by and glanced at the empty seats before moving along with their own private haul of food. He assumed they were looking for a place to sit and he would have offered them that place at his table but they, so far, scurried away before he could swallow and offer. He probably looked like he was waiting for three other people, with the amount of food he's got. It wasn't likely he was going to eat it all, but he hasn't had this sort of food presented to him yet here and he was going to take advantage.

He slowly picked at his fried pickles, then he took a bite of his funnel cake, then next he had a small messy bite of lamb, then a drink of his lemonade, and he moved again across the table to take a bite from his tray of nachos, the slice of pizza, and then next was potato wedges.

This was a good scene for him, he thought idly while he snacked from his many purchases, there were a lot of people here laughing and smiling, shouting and dancing. It gave him some peace to be around the general feeling there. It definitely kept his mind out from folding into itself, that's for sure. Too many distractions to keep him here and in the now.

hi :D

The food stands were terribly busy and she didn't know what to pick out. Some of the words were familiar (cake was cake even in her world), but most of it she could only guess at what she might like. She finally chose some soda, and an order of fish and chips and was amazed at just how greasy it looked as she wandered around looking for a place to sit.

There was a man by himself at the only empty table although it looked like he might be waiting for some friends with the amount of food he had setting out. Red looked around and still didn't see any other openings, so she decided to intrude as politely as she could. "Excuse me," she said almost too softly to hear, still unsure of her own voice.

"May I sit here? I can leave if you have friends coming." Red gave him a small, hopeful smile.

what's up babe

Isaac snorted over his bite. He had a few crumbs flecking down from his bottom lip to his chin. He lowered his hand from his mouth, cheese from the nacho chip coated his forefinger. He swallowed before he gestured to the seat she was nearest to. After a swig of his drink he huffed. "No, I don't mind it at all.. please sit.. I actually, am not waiting for anyone." He fessed up before he sniffed and picked up a napkin to wipe at his mouth and clean up some of the cheese left on his finger. "It's pretty crowded.. but, nobody wanted to sit with me.. I think I intimidate them.. with my mighty appetite." He chuckled and looked over to her grease soaked food. "What do you have there?"

oh u kno, talking to dirty old men

"Fish, supposedly," Red joked back with a small smile as she settled herself down to sit. She was wearing a yellow summer dress with a pair of matching sandals, and as usual her short red hair was an organized mess of red waves.

She took a bite of one of the chips, a barely-less-greasy french fry that was so salty it made her eyes crinkle for a second. Red grinned across the table at the stranger. "You've an array, so I think that makes you the expert. What do you recommend here? Do you have a favorite?"

Isaac snorted and shook his head. He looked across his spread and lifted up the nacho tray and moved it toward her to offer her some from it. "The cheese on these .. it has a kick to it, but I like it." He waited for her to pick from it or decline before he set the tray down and gestured to the rest of his food. "Help yourself.. I think the thing I like the least is that I'm indecisive.. it's all great." He gave her half a grin.

She was fairly good looking. He didn't need long to make that assertion. Her hair was a vibrant red, she was fit, and her yellow dress was cute on her. She was very attractive and Isaac was glad to have the company, so far she seemed nice too, which was great!

She happy he notices~

Red wasn't shy at all about reaching over to pluck a chip from the pile of nachos, and she made sure to try and scoop up a little of everything with that one chip. When she brought it to her mouth, her other hand was close below to catch any fallout. Luckily there was none, although she got a smudge of cheese at the corner of her mouth. She chewed quickly, trying not to laugh while doing so, and cleaned up the cheese with her tongue.

"That's much better than my selection. Thank you." She thought a moment and then shared, "there's a joke where I'm from, a saying: at lunchtime let the Process work, and you take a byte. Byte, you see the pun? Like the addressable memory unit of digital information? Byte?" She did laugh this time, as if it really was funny.
full_of_bad_ideas: (Default)

oh.. he notice... he do that

[personal profile] full_of_bad_ideas 2017-07-02 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
He didn't get the joke until he thought about it after her explanation and with the context of the byte being explained outside of initially thinking about her saying 'bite' as in with the teeth he chuckled. He didn't expect a joke, let alone a joke he would consider to be something from a computer programmer to make. "So, let me guess.." he was sure of it, however, "you're a computer programmer right? I mean, that kind of joke.." He chuckled again and waited a moment for her answer before he responded with his own profession. "I'm an engineer. I work around this place.. taking up freelance jobs for my type of expertise." He shrugged. "Some of it I can understand, yet, it's still not technology that I'm accustomed to.. are you.. from here?"
switchcircuit: (It's not when you get there)

[personal profile] switchcircuit 2017-07-02 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
While he talked, she had reached over to take another one of the nachos and ate it as she had before. To the question, Red shook her head in the negative that no, she was no computer programmer. With her mouth full of delicious, cheesy, spicy nacho she couldn't answer verbally just yet. At the news of his being an engineer her eyes lit up and she smiled as she swallowed the mouthful of goodness.

"An engineer!" For just a moment she thought of Royce, but she was smart enough and kind enough (she'd like to think), that she wouldn't hold that against this man. Everyone chose their own paths as well as they could.

"No, I'm not from here. I'm from a place called Cloudbank. I was an entertainer there, a singer." And so far she was assigned to be a back-up singer of some kind but she had never turned up for work and hadn't been interested. Really, Red didn't know what she was going to do here. "I'm Red," she introduced herself.

"Isaac, .." He glanced to her hair, as if that was the reason for her name. In any case, it fit! He licked his lips and took another swig of his drink before he wiped his mouth with his napkin. "Cloudbank.." The name wasn't familiar but he could imagine a city high in the atmosphere; at least back in his universe. He cleared his throat. "I don't imagine we're from the same place. Seems to be how it goes so far. Or maybe I just haven't put myself out there. Honestly.. this.. network of ours, nobody has come across that I know." And in truth he'd been silent on the network so far and didn't have any intention to use it. After all, he was a bit paranoid.

She noticed the glance to her hair and it was fully expected, and only made her smile with amusement before she reached over for another nacho. By now she had utterly rejected the idea of even trying her greasy fish. "No, Cloudbank is not of Earth. It was its own." Red didn't know quite how to explain how she knew that, just that she did.

The idea of different worlds was interesting to her but not shocking. She liked the idea really, of different cultures, different popular opinions, different governments. The more things change, the less they change. That was no way to expand yourself or your ideas. Red licked a smudge of sour cream from her thumb and gave a thoughtful hum.

"It's not too different from the OVC network in Cloudbank. We had a lot of polls though, always polls. It was a purely democratic society, everything from city engineering to the color of the sky were by popular vote." Red rested her hands on her lap and sat up straighter, looking over his face curiously. "What is your favorite color of sky? If you could change it right now, to any color."

Weird. He had to chuckle. "No kidding.." Although, colonies in space took to rooms that were adaptable in the delivery of what florescent sky would be seen in the depth of the darkness of space. There was part of the human nature that instinctively needed to see sunlight so artificial skies were quite popular in big complexes within space. Isaac then looked from her to the food before him and then upward to the sky they all had to come to know now.

"Well, ... Blue. A nice clear blue." He squinted his eyes. "Not too much sun." The darkness of space was too grand and dangerous for him to desire. "Your Cloudbank sounds like a space colony.." He looked back then to Red.
switchcircuit: (It's always the climb)

[personal profile] switchcircuit 2017-07-02 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Likely it was much similar to one, although I'll have to refer to you for the comparison as I would not know." Red blinked down to the array of food and she finally moved on from the nachos to try a potato wedge. It was very much more tasty than her fries, and she smiled at him while she chewed the small bite she'd taken.

"It was normal to me but after being here I think most people would have found Cloudbank disorienting. It was completely digitized, I suppose you could say. We had the Process, which did... everything. It was very advanced AI, and our culture developed around it." Which would explain the stupid byte joke.

"But tell me about space, tell me about space colonies? ...these are really good." Red gave a more apologetic smile as she took another bite of the potato wedge.

Isaac was becoming lost in her story. "Uh, well.. we still can't go outside in space without a space suit.. so you lived in a computer generated world?" There was something about that concept that he was having a hard time wrapping his head around. "I have .. seen virtual realities in which we can create through holograms and goggles, even suits to walk us through the world but it's not real--it's not something we can sustain life from. We still have to make our food, sleep, exercise.. Our space colonies are like.. large boats with different sections for shopping, living, socializing, things like that." He looked to the wedges and gave her a small nod before he joined her in a bite of his own from them.
switchcircuit: (I know it's mine)

[personal profile] switchcircuit 2017-07-02 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Boats in space full of people going about their life, shopping and eating. That sounds nice. It sounds insulated too. Hm." Red looked off to the side and then up at the sky. It was dusk, a nice yellow-orange, and there were no grids. That made smirk softly before her blue eyes fell back onto Isaac.

"Cloudbank was very insulated. Imagine, if you can, the Function of a toaster oven. It's a machine which when ordered to and given the raw materials will produce food. Now imagine a machine so large that it's an entire city, and the raw materials are endlessly recycled and regenerated, and the command input is via popular vote on consoles around the city. That was Cloudbank. One week they may want a bridge in the Golden district, and the Process would build it and make that happen. The week after that, the bridge is no longer popular and instead a plaza is wanted. The Process makes it happen." Red tilted her head and finished off the potato. "Can you imagine it, Isaac?"

He liked the way she was talking. Her explanations and metaphors resonated with him. "The Process.." He gave a small nod. "Sounds incredible. I can't imagine what that would be like. Everything we want we've got to build it--even if it's a computer or machine to carry out the task we need." He looked her over once again. An easy smile, she was quite attractive-he thought once again.

Even more so, he thought about how great it was to talk to her about this.

"I can see how a boat in space would be similar to Cloudbank." He took another sip and continued rambling afterward. "With a need to recycle our resources and learn how to use what we have because there has become less and less available to us."

[personal profile] switchcircuit 2017-07-03 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
"We didn't seem to have that problem but, then again, the Process took care of us for so long we really could not know. Even the engineers and programmers who took care of it didn't know where it came from or how exactly it was— evolving." Red stared down thoughtfully at the container of potato wedges before she took another one.

Then she dipped it in the spicy nacho cheese and smiled ruefully up at him before she took a bite. "Thank you, for sharing your lunch with me. I'll have to owe you one." In other words, she was stating that she would like to meet him again some time.

"Tell me more about the work you do here?"
