observation deck
He hits the observation deck not to take a look at the sights (he'd done plenty of that during his first week here), but merely to pass through to another area. All the same, it's hard to miss the redheaded teenage girl holding onto...
What is that? It's decorated with flowers, but on closer look Snake can tell that it's some sort of oversized key. A toy?
Either way, he hasn't seen her either around the Moira or on the crew list on his MID, which means she's new. He can relate to her awe at the view outside, he'd reacted more or less the same way.
He actually doesn't mean to sneak, but Snake's quiet by nature, something that's been trained into him since a fairly young age. So when he speaks up, it might be a little startling. "Yeah, not sure that it's something you ever really get used to."

"Its beautiful," she agrees. She didn't want to admit she'd been spending the last few minutes trying to scan the sky for familiar constellations, any of the markers that the children on Destiny Islands were taught to steer by. But nothing was familiar here, not this sky. "It makes you feel really... small. Never thought I'd say that about stars."

He falls in next to her, a few feet between them still, and takes another look through the viewing glass. Every day the sights are different, which is at least some proof that they're on the move. Whether they're actually going in the right direction is a different question.
"I think that's kind of the point," Snake remarks with a shrug. "They remind you of your place in the universe... and how insignificant it is."
He's doing a bang-up job of making her feel welcome so far. With a sigh, Snake turns from the window to face the newcomer more directly. "What's your name?"
no subject
"I don't think that's true. Its just shows us how small we are, but being small doesn't mean you're insignificant." A shrug. She'd seen one person make all the difference in the world, after all. "I guess, if you really want to think about it, it just means that we're all small together, right?"
"I'm Kairi. Nice to meet you, even if I wish it were under different circumstances."

She's one of those eternal optimists, probably because she's still young enough that the world hasn't chewed her up and spit her back out. Snake had never been cheery, necessarily, but once he'd been young and green himself.
This Kairi has a point, though. Snake doesn't believe he can save the world, but he can try to help it be a little safer. That's what he's dedicated himself to, after all.
"We probably wouldn't have met at all if it weren't for these circumstances," he points out with a shrug. "I'm Snake." He holds his hand out. "What was that thing you had before?"
