The Great First Aid Hunt
Which. She may have been doing as she walked, her attention mostly focused on the thin strings instead of the area around her. So when she looked up at the crossbar, intending on turning left towards the bar, she was extremely startled to find a muddy, bloody figure dead ahead.]
Fuckin' 'ell!

And it would be her luck to nearly run right into the person she was trying to avoid to begin with. Lara flinches hard at the yell, again at the reflective pain of the sudden move and dances backwards quickly, hand dropping to her pick axe. ]
Get back!

A'ight, a'ight, i's'alright, yeah? Look, I'm not a threat, just a girl trying to tune her fiddle. [As she talked, she took better stock of the woman standing before her, and she didn't like what she saw.] Hey, you're hurt, aye? You should get one of the loblolly's to look at it, yeah? Don't want to take infection, take it from me.
no subject
I- I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. [ A single detail breaks through the rapid fire pace of her thoughts. ] You're English.
[ She says it the way one might say "Oh thank god, a doctor." were the situation slightly different. ]
no subject
Aye, that I am. Jacky, Jacky Faber, at your service. Lieutenant in His Majesty's Navy, so you can trust me. I give you my word as an Officer.
[She didn't appear to be going for that wicked bit of metal at her hip, but Jacky wasn't going to do anything foolish. This girl looked like a bit of rigging worn thin enough to snap.]
Come on, you need to see a doctor.
no subject
Lara forces out a breath and holds up her hands. First thing's first. ]
Lieutenant Faber, this. We're in space.
[ It's sort of a question. ]
no subject
Ah, yes. Yes we are. We are in a ship with sails but no rigging, flying through the heavens, and, no, y'cain't go outside.
[Now that it's been awhile, she can almost forget how terrifying the whole concept was (thanks, Ratchet).]
no subject
I'd ask if this was all a dream, but I don't know if I would like any answer you'd give me.
[ That and she can't imagine why she would start dreaming about spaceships. Instead she asks the next question that seems most important. ]
Are we safe?
no subject
[She said these words with all the conviction she could muster. She didn't know this girl, but she knew that desperation, and she meant what she said.]
Now, how about we get you to the surgeon? I promise, I'll keep you safe.
no subject
It just occurred to me, no one's said that to me- [ She shrugs it off with a roll of her shoulders. ] No, nevermind. Thank you, Lieutenant, I'm calmer now.
no subject
Listen, y'can call me Jacky, if you like.
no subject
[ The tension was leaving her in increments, though not completely. She kept her head up, eyes tracking occasionally away from Jacky to the surrounding hall.]
You said something about a doctor? [ Another smile, trying for humor.] I've the worst headache, you see.
no subject
[She jerked her head toward one of the hallways.] The infirmary's down this way; they'll get you fixed up right quick! Pro'ly can do somethin' for your head, too.
this is a time skip tag bc i can't think of anything else hooraaay!!
The walk is brief and somehow shockingly uneventful and after is a blur of nurses and the sharp sting of cuts and injuries being disinfected. Jacky might find Lara later, slipping out of the infirmary in a clean new uniform and clearly ignoring her bed rest directive. ]
time skips are the best skips!
And since she'd been there, too, she wasn't all that surprised that she caught sight of Lara leaving the surgeon's office looking like she was sneaking out of an enemy camp. Laughing to herself, she hopped down off the bit of architecture she'd been perched on to finish tuning the Lady Gay and approached Lara.]
All fixed up, then?
no subject
Yes, thank you.
no subject
[She's not sure where Lara's room is, but she sure is intent on getting her there.]
no subject
Actually, I was thinking of having a look about. [ She tucks a stray bit of hair behind her ear, feeling a little embarrassed. ] Seeing as I'm, ah, less delirious than before.

no subject
That would be nice, actually. Thank you.

Here we are! Got some sort of green lasagne, some 'stir fry' with greens and peppers and some good hearty root vegetables, some potatoes au gratin, over here are curried chicken sandwiches, and some macaroni and cheddar with scallions and ham.
[Grabbing two plates, she handed one to Lara and started grabbing some grub herself. No burgoo or weevils in the rolls; definitely an improvement over some ships she'd been pressed on. And, yes, she's taking one of everything.]
no subject
Once they sit, Lara dives into her food, though she does at least make an effort to not inhale it. It'd be a waste to get sick.]
It's delicious!
no subject
[Shovelling a healthy portion of grub into her maw, she swallowed before asking:] Where're you from, Lara? North of London?
makes vague gestures
South-west, actually, Wimbledon. You?
agrees with vague gestures
